Elective selections - Year 9 & 11 in 2021

With the ongoing challenges and uncertainty regarding Covid-19, elective selections for students moving into Year 9 and 11 in 2021 will be online this year.

There will be no subject information day and all information will be shared with students and parents through our online learning management platform, FROG.

There will be online presentations from Mrs Serena Lewis, Head of Teaching and Learning and Mrs Lucy Collett, Director of Studies. Students and Parents will also have the opportunity to browse pages for each of the elective offerings. There will be links to the Curriculum Handbook pages as well as resources created by subject teachers. These resources may be in the form of videos, PowerPoints or brochures.

I would also ask that you encourage your child to start talking to their current teachers, mentors and Heads of Departments about the opportunities available next year.

Although the subject information and selection process is moving online, I want to reassure you that your child will have plenty of information available to them. The online site will be available towards the end of this term and students will have the term break and the first 2 weeks of Term 3 to make their decisions. The online site will also have detailed instructions on how to access the online selection form.

Elective selections will be due by Friday 31 July 2020.

Further information regarding the launching of the online subject information site will be forwarded to parents and students in the upcoming weeks.

ICAS 2020 – Junior School

We have decided as a school to no longer participate in the ICAS tests in the foreseeable future.

In 2019, ICAS made the move to online and this posed a number of issues from the UNSW’s end that made it very difficult for us to engage with. We have also found that the results are coming back very late in the year, which means that they are not as effective in terms of assisting us with providing enrichment for our students.

We understand that this may be disappointing for some students and their parents, but we are actively looking to engage with other opportunities to assist with enrichment.

Award Correction

In our last Newsletter Oscar Zielinski was mistakenly listed as being in year 4, Oscar is in year 5 and so we acknowledge his award for Application to Remote Learning.

Calling all young artists who'd like to make a spash

Orange Aquatic Centre Mushroom Fountain
Orange Aquatic Centre Mushroom Fountain

Orange City Council and the Orange Aquatic Centre are calling for the city’s young artists to come forward and help us create a new design to update our mushroom fountain.

The mushroom is currently looking a little sad so we would like the children of Orange to help us with a new design.

Simply download the colouring-in sheet using this link:

Aquatic Centre Mushroom Design Competition

Children can colour-in the sheet, take a photo of their design and send it in via the Orange Aquatic Centre’s Facebook page or email it to us at media@orange.nsw.gov.au.

The competition is open to children aged from 0-15 years old. A winner from each age group will be selected and receive a special prize. One design out of the three finalists will then be chosen to be painted onto the mushroom fountain.

Entries close on Sunday 7 June 2020.

We would appreciate your assistance in spreading the word about our competition before the end of the week when entries close.
