Autism Awareness Week

This week we celebrated a belated Autism Awareness Week with an opportunity to review and discuss a range of teaching resources and strategies for supporting students on the spectrum.  Students on the spectrum can face many challenges navigating learning and school life, it is important that teachers understand each student's unique profile and be well informed with evidence-based strategies to support them.

Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder often have difficulty with communicating their needs, some appear to be withdrawn and can become isolated whilst others try very hard to be sociable, but experience difficulty. Some students on the spectrum require intensive supports to access the curriculum whilst others require minimal support.  At the college, our Inclusive Education Team and Wellbeing Team work alongside teaching staff to ensure students on the spectrum and their families are well supported throughout their learning journey at the college.

We believe that our families are the best advocates for their children, and we are here to ensure they can access all of the wonderful programs and learning opportunities we offer here at the college.
