Around The Primary

Dear Parents

The most enjoyable part of my day has become greeting students and parents at the car park as they arrive each morning. We have been encouraging conversational manners and it is pleasing to see the improvement in this area from the youngest through to the eldest students. It is wonderful when they stop to greet staff, converse about their evening or weekend, and respond without prompting. I also commend those students who are continuing to come into school independently and carry their own bags. We want to encourage our students to be confident, resilient and independent in all aspects of their lives.

The staff have appreciated the additional time in the mornings, without interruptions, to prepare for the day and to get the students ready to start their lessons promptly. The extra teaching and learning time will be of benefit to all our students.

The College had a huge number of entries for this week’s Music Eisteddfod. Well done to all the students from Years 1-6 who participated in the program. It was a wonderful experience for our musicians – bravo everyone!

Congratulations to our very talented students who received an Outstanding Performer Award or a Special Mention. We are so proud of all your efforts!

It has been terrific to see so many runners arrive for the early morning cross-country training sessions, regardless of the weather conditions. Well done to students for challenging themselves and participating with such enthusiasm. Special thanks to Mr Williams and staff volunteers for coordinating these training sessions.

The delivery of teaching and learning in all schools has been disrupted by COVID-19 and adjustments have been made to the Semester One reports to reflect this context.

We have been informed by CEWA and School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) that the Semester One, 2020 report does not require schools to report student achievement using the A, B, C, D and E scale.

Our modified Semester One report will show progress for individual subjects using the following progression scale:

  • Above Expected Level
  • At Expected Level
  • Working Towards Expected Level

The graded scale used to determine student effort in each learning area will continue to be the same as previously used.  That is:

  • Outstanding
  • Very Good
  • Satisfactory
  • Inconsistent
  • Unsatisfactory

The reports will also include details about personal and social development and a general comment with information about a student’s attitude, effort and behaviour.

The teachers have commenced work on these modified Semester One reports and will use professional judgement in their assessment and reporting of student achievement. The Semester One Reports will be available on-line to parents on Friday 3 July from 3pm.

Parent/Teacher Interviews will be scheduled for the start of Term 3 to provide further feedback (booking details to follow).

Kind regards
