John XXIII College Rowing Club

Rowing Update

It was great to see that so many of our rowers back this week, training in boats and on land.  Whilst it has not yet been confirmed, the All Schools Regattas are likely to go ahead in the form of a shorter season.  This means we will be defending our State Championship title on an even playing field.

Over the past few weeks, we have had small groups of six girls going out in sculls for each session, following strict restrictions which have been adhered to.  While we are seeing restrictions lift, many policies and procedures will remain in place for some time.  Some of these policies are:

  • Washing and sanitising your hands on arrival and when you leave the rowing facility.
  • Signing in and out before you enter and after you leave the rowing facility.

The Canning Bridge Sign IN/OUT form MUST be completed immediately before and after leaving the shed on every occasion.  If rowers can please get into the habit of filling this form out on the way to training.

Year 8 Rowing Program begins!

Thank you for your patience regarding the Year 8 Program. I am very excited to announce that it will commence from Week 8 this term (next week)!

Due to the river wall works outside our shed at Canning Bridge we will provide a training day to the boys and one for the girls. Hopefully, next term when the works are due to be finished, we can extend to 2 session per week for all students.

The Year 8 Rowing Program will culminate in the House Regatta.  This is where the Seniors will row with the Year 8 rowers on the Canning Bridge course. In the past this has been a great day to welcome our next rowers and families to the John XXIII Rowing Club. The tentative date for this regatta expected to be mid-Term 3.

A bus service will take each group from the school bus shelter at 3:30pm to the John XXIII boat shed, located at Canning Bridge, students will be returned to the bus shelter at 6pm.
