Middle Years

I would like to pass on congratulations to students and parents;  you have all done amazingly well during this challenging time. Students have been incredibly adaptable and it’s time to get everyone back to school. We are looking forward to Years 7 to 10 resuming next Tuesday, 9 June.

Goals for the last two weeks of Term 2

Transitioning back into the classroom;

  • Help students to settle into myPEC.
  • Re-engage with friends.
  • Getting back into full school routines.
  • Reviewing learning during the RLP and speak to teachers if there are any concerns.
  • Setting goals and motivation for Semester Two.

Message to myPEC students

I’d like to offer my congratulations to everyone on the way that you’ve handled the last few weeks of remote learning. There have been plenty of challenges for students across the senior school. One of the hardest things has been being away from your friends, and the has been particularly challenging for Year 7 students who are still consolidating friendships. The first task when everyone comes back is to settle into MyPEC, settle back into your classes and make everyone feel welcome.

When you are back at school, I encourage you to be welcoming and friendly. You may be feeling shy or worried about resuming school, I suspect that most students will be feeling a little nervous on the 9th June. It may feel like the first day of the year.

I expect there to be much excitement when you come back but when you get into class it is going to be important to settle quickly and respectfully and re-adjust to the classroom expectations and routines. One of the things I noticed in the senior classes was the chatter during lessons. This low level talking can be distracting, so it is important to reset classroom routines and make sure you do not talk excessively when you return to class.

I hope you feel satisfied with the effort you have put in over recent weeks and feel a sense of pride in your achievements. You have been learning independently and with the assistance of family and your teachers. You have probably learnt a lot about yourself and I hope that these independent learning skills continue back in the classroom. I have also noticed that you have been helping each other through your Class Teams and I hope you continue to support each other.

Earlier this week I emailed Year 7-9 families explaining new protocols in MyPEC.
