Hello Families,
I hope you are all well and continue being kind to each other and the world around you.
What a fabulous opportunity to celebrate Reconciliation last week.
I would like to acknowledge the phenomenal work by Jess Langson, (our school’s Discovery Leader) and Rebecca Batten, (Music Teacher). Jess worked with our leaders to coordinate our school’s official assembly to acknowledge the meaning and purpose of Reconciliation. Rebecca coordinated the compilation of the performances of Paul Kelly’s ‘From Little Things, Big Things Grow’ song. What a celebration and showcase for our school.
We also held a short Open Morning where we welcomed our school community into our learning spaces. It was so very positive to see so many of you in the school, sharing with your children and grandchildren. It’s all about
community connection and these small opportunities are the seeds to future growth and achievement at our already ‘great’ school.
I want to extend gratitude to the optimism, positivity and goodwill you spread when I see you in our school. It does not go unnoticed. Your energy is contagious!
I would like to announce that Marg King and Paris Arzanas have recently been appointed to fixed term positions at Carnegie Primary School. Both Marg and Paris are already part of our team and work productively with many of our students especially from the junior school. We welcome them officially to our team.
Long Service Leave
Several staff members are taking well earned periods of long service leave over the coming weeks.
Our WellBeing leader, Liz Harley is on leave until the end of term 2. We wish her a relaxing time away from home.
Karen Bentata-Grimm will be on leave and return on July 24th. Amanda Miller, Learning Specialist and year 5 teacher, will be the Acting Assistant Principal for the duration of Karen BG’s leave. Feel free to reach out to Amanda if you have any queries whilst Karen BG is away.
I had the opportunity to visit the Grade 6 classes to see first hand what the students have been learning about. Clearly, context matters! Students surveyed their classmates about things of interest to them, including favourite sport, favourite number, food preferences, etc. They were required to calculate the fraction of students of the whole, then translate the fraction into a percentage. What was of interest was the variety of ways students chose to represent their learning. I appreciated the invite. It was so wonderful to share in the learning ‘vibe’ present in the space.
End of semester reports will be visible to all parents on Compass on Wednesday 21st June. Teachers have conducted their assessments and most of them have nearly finished writing their reports. Students in years 3 to 6 will also write a reflection about their learning that forms part of the semester report.
If you are unable to view the semester report, please contact your child’s teacher and he/she will be able to guide you. The report remains on the Compass portal whilst your child is enrolled at Carnegie PS. Please remember to download the reports to your devices before your child leaves the school
The last day of term 2 is next Friday 23rd June. The children finish school at 2.30pm. They will be dismissed from their classrooms. I wish everyone a very safe and happy holiday and look forward to seeing all again on Monday 10th July when we commence another great term. I hope you can take the opportunity to rest a little and enjoy a change of pace, on these cooler days, with family and friends.
