PRINCIPAL UPDATE

I find it hard to believe that I am writing to you with the conclusion of semester 1 upon us.  An exciting, yet busy semester it has been, one whereby we have welcomed over 11 new staff, multiple new students, and families to our community.

I thank everyone in advance for their continued support over this time.  We have embarked on a very successful Fair, school excursions and sporting events along with engaging learning activities and growth taking place within classrooms.

Multiple parent and grandparent events and have loved having families onsite and engaging in these, along with parents volunteering within the classrooms.

I have been extremely impressed and proud of our amazing school leaders.  Minnie, James, Sayuni and Caden, truly have led with enthusiasm, using initiative in all that they undertake.  Although their official semester is complete, I look forward to continuing to work with them for the remainder of the school year that is ahead of us.

Staff have completed reports and finalised assessments for the semester.  These reports will go live tomorrow.  Some Specialist reports will look slightly different this semester due to staffing changes. As previously stated, this term, we will not be holding Parent Teacher Interviews as you are receiving the written report, however we look forward to hosting parents/carers in term 3 for the Student Led Conferences.

Next semester we are embarking on a couple of small changes to our Friday assembly schedule and structure. We are very keen to see greater voice and agency amongst our House Captains, along with some opportunities to further build relationships amongst students across the year levels therefore we will be holding assemblies fortnightly from term 3.  This will mean that on the alternate weeks, there will be House events and multi-age activities taking place across the school.  Attached below is the simple outline of this and we will be working with House and School Captains regarding their roles within this.

We have had feedback re: unsafe driving and parking in Huntingdon St that are dangerous for pedestrians (especially our students) and cars.

Parents are reminded to only park in nominated parking spaces which are down near the Multipurpose room. The area at the double gates is a no parking or stopping zone and the disabled parks must be left available for those within our community who require access to these parks. Community safety is our priority and we hope that our community can adhere to safe driving and movement around our school zone.

Thanks to Deb Fisher we were lucky enough to receive a grant to paint a mural on the external wall of the two-story building that houses the library and grade 3 and 4 classes.  Norm Stanley has been working with the grade 6 students around the design and they will complete the mural this week.  We look forward to showcasing this in our assembly on Friday at 2pm.

Please ensure that prep enrolments are in as we will be notifying families in August of acceptance.  It is important that we know of all siblings to ensure we can plan appropriately for the 2024 school year.

I wish Jason Cole and his family a wonderful trip overseas.  We very much look forward to hearing about their adventure and look forward to welcoming him back in term 4.  As communicated to parents, Sam Callan, known to all students, will be taking his grade for term 3.

I too, am taking some leave to head overseas to Greece, Romania, and the United Kingdom. Sarah Jeffreys will be Acting Principal, Louisa Blamires, Acting Assistant Principal and Lisa Harmer stepping into the Learning Specialist role.

Thanks again everyone, have a fabulous break, look after our school grounds if accessing them over the holidays, students and staff return on Monday July 10, and I will see you in the second week of August.

Kind regards,

Meg
