The Blue Marble- Biome Mini-Project

As part of our Integrated unit, The Blue Marble, Grade 3/4 students had the opportunity to research, collect and present information about different biomes on Earth.

Students worked collaboratively, with a partner or small group, to complete a mini-project in which they became experts in one of the following biomes.

GRASSLAND/SAVANNAH
TEMPERATE FOREST
MARINE
FRESH WATER
DESERT
TROPICAL RAINFOREST
TUNDRA

Students were guided about the type of information to research through the exploration of the activities in the table below.

Students were asked to choose 5 activities to complete, and had the freedom to present their findings in any way they chose. It was wonderful to see students’ creative side in the varying formats their information was presented. From start to finish, students’ engagement levels were high, and it was clear that they enjoyed this mini-project!

Here is a report about biomes from Jason and Leo in 3AT

‘A biome has a different habitat and ecosystem to other biomes. They have unique animals and plants. There are different climates in different biomes. Some biomes we explored were, tropical rainforest, tundra, marine/freshwater, savannah/grasslands, temperate forests and deserts. Some features are the same and different to other biomes like snow in the tundra and sand in the desert. We found it very interesting to learn that there are so many biomes.'
