Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge 2023
The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is open and we encourage families to register as a home based reader.
https://vprc.eduweb.vic.gov.au/register
The PRC application offers a range of exciting features including:
- access to a library catalogue (including book images and blurbs)
- a modern user-friendly interface
- rewarding students with badges as challenge milestones are achieved
- the option for students to mark books as a favourite, give them a star rating or complete a book review
The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition, but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 8 September 2023.
Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.
All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.
To read the Premier’s letter to parents, view the booklist and for more information about the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge, visit: https://www.vic.gov.au/premiers-reading-challenge
Happy Reading!
GRADE 3 CAMP - CAMP ADANAC
On Wednesday 12th July, 94 very excited Grade 3 students headed for Camp ADANAC on their first school camp.
It was a very busy and action-packed 2 days, with students rotating through a range of activities. These activities included: Flying Fox, Canoeing, Archery, Damper cooking, Low Ropes Course, Photo Hunt, Disc Golf, Aqua Ponding and Hut Building. Students conquered their fear of heights, challenged themselves and gained greater independence and sense of responsibility.
All students thoroughly enjoyed the delicious meals that were prepared for them, especially ‘AFC – ADANAC Fried Chicken’.
The fun didn’t stop there because after dinner we went on an exciting and scary bushwalk with our torches to see what we could find. This was then followed by a movie night in our PJs. We didn’t even make it through the whole movie, as everyone was well and truly ready for bed.
A great time was had by all and the quote of camp was “They say there is no place like home, but they obviously haven’t been to Camp ADANAC!”.
Thank you to the amazing staff and parents who came on camp and made the whole thing possible and such an enjoyable experience. All grade 3 students should be proud of their efforts, bravery and positive attitude.
COLD / FLU / ALLERGY SEASON
As we welcome everyone back to Term 3, we make a timely reminder that we are still seeing an increase in numbers of children becoming unwell with sniffles, coughs, and sore throats.
If your child is displaying symptoms of being unwell (fever – above 37.9 degrees, sore throat, cough, runny or stuffy nose, stomachache, nausea), please consider if they are well enough to come to school. Please reassess the conversations you are having if you send your child to school with the message that they can call you if they are still feeling unwell. Most of all, please consider the health and wellbeing of other students and staff.
If your child develops any sign of illness whilst at school, we will request that you or an
adult nominated by you, collect your child from school as soon as possible.
Please continue to encourage good hygiene at home. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing and sneezing . Cough into your elbow, dispose of tissues into a bin, and wash hands regularly with soap and water, or use sanitizer.
We are also seeing an early increase in Hay fever / Eczema / Asthma sufferers, which predicts that we will probably be heading into a tough allergy season of Spring.
If your child suffers from any medical condition, please make sure that their Teacher and First Aid Officer are aware, and that you have provided the required medical documentation and medication to the First Aid office.
Thank you for your continued support and co-operation.
Let’s work together to stay safe and healthy.
Shona
The Japanese Word of the Fortnight
すきです (pronounced ‘sukides’) which means ‘like’ is the Japanese Word for Week 2 & 3 of Term 3. You can use ‘すきです’ (‘sukides’) to say you like something. For example, if you want to say ‘I like sushi’, you say ‘Sushi sukides’ (すしすきです). The word, ‘I’ is often omitted in conversation when it’s obvious.
Thank you / ありがとうございます (pronounced ‘aligatoh gozaimas’) for your continuing support for our Japanese program.
