Hello from 7M!
What a fabulous, lively bunch of kids we have in 7M! These kids are fun, funny, and as devoted to their social life as any class we've ever met. In addition to this, the growth 7M have shown in their ability to sustain focused learning this year is outstanding. Half-way through the year, they are now able to maintain their attention on a task for increasingly lengthy periods of time and are also (impressively) able to re-focus after big trucks, diggers or other excitements pass by our classroom window. The time they lifted the portable dunny onto the back of a ute has been a highlight for many of us this year, me included. Fortunately (or unfortunately) the building works are finished and there are no more machines left to decipher the workings of. Back to work, 7M!
It’s been exciting to see the progress 7M have made as a class working collectively and cooperatively, as well as on their individual learning goals.
Students in this class are motivated to do well and support each other endlessly. The encouragement and assistance they give each other is (and I’m going to say it, 7M, despite it being completely daggy) wonderful to witness.
It's been a pleasure getting to know this bunch of kids. I am so looking forward to camp at The Summit in August – with a group of kids who are this much fun, it’s going to be a blast! Get your camp forms in, kiddos!
Science
This year, 7M has been diving headfirst into some of the major fields of Science in the brand-new science building. We began the year by introducing students to some key science skills, such as how to conduct experiments and of course, obtaining our Bunsen burner licences, before jumping into Biology. In this unit, we investigated the importance of classification for how we understand the diversity of life, and we made dichotomous keys to classify different Australian organisms, including some that live in the wetlands here at our College. From there, we delved into Physics, learning about how forces describe the motion of objects, and looking to the night sky to understand seasons, eclipses, and the phases of the moon. Once we return next term, we will head into the field of Chemistry to explore the properties of matter – everything that is around us.
Woodwork
In Woodwork students were required to show measurement and understand the size of a project. Students worked on their tool handling skills, joint types and uses.
Maths
During our Math sessions, 7M has been working very hard on everything about percentages. We learned how to work out discount on different products and specials. We loved it so much we even did our first maths CAT on it. We are now learning to calculate the best buy for a bundle of products. In between we had some fun building card towers and we learned how to think creatively to build the highest card tower.
