REPORTING

The Term 2 round of Student Performance Average (SPA) reports for students in Years 7-12 has been completed. Parents/Guardians and students will be able to access these reports on Xuno by Wednesday next week. We encourage students and parents to study the results in each category for each subject and consider how well they have gone and how they might continue to improve in Semester 2.

SEMESTER  2

The Semester 2 timetable will begin on Monday 19th June 2017. Year Level Team leaders are currently finalising subject changes and students will be issued with their new timetables shortly. This is also a good time for students to refresh their supplies of stationary and binder books and give their locker a good clean up.

SHEPPARTON EDUCATION PLAN –

HAVE YOUR SAY

As you might be aware through recent media coverage the Victorian Government has announced it is developing a new ten-year plan to transform Shepparton’s education system.

The Shepparton Education Plan will look at how we can improve education for young people in the area from early learning, through primary and secondary school, and beyond. We want to give students more options and opportunities, help young people transition through each stage of education, equip teachers with training and resources, and improve school infrastructure.

We are consulting widely to help set the direction for the Shepparton Education Plan.  We’ll be looking at how we can:

  • help more students to reach their full potential at school
  • help young people to be happy, healthy and resilient
  • break the link between disadvantage and poorer education outcomes
  • keep young people interested in education
  • ensure every young person has access to the education they need to achieve their goals.

This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity. The Government has committed to developing the plan, and now wants you to help shape the future of education in Shepparton.

The plan will build on the work already done by the Better Together Alliance. No decisions have been made at this stage – so we’re inviting all ideas and perspectives. An Advisory Committee has been established, made up of local educators and community members. Working groups are also being formed around key issues for the plan. We are working towards having a draft plan by the end of the year.

The Victorian Government wants your input to help develop the Shepparton Education Plan.

Parents, guardians and those working with young people have important insights into education in Shepparton at every stage – from kindergarten, through to the experience of students who have recently left school.

We are asking you to go online and share your ideas and perspective. Please go to www.engage.vic.gov.au/SheppartonEducationPlan   On this webpage you can:

  • complete the survey
  • leave a message on the comment board
  • register to attend the community workshop.

The community workshop will be held at 6.30pm on Thursday 29th June. More details will be available on the webpage. We encourage you to come along, learn about the education plan and have your say.

The Shepparton Education Plan will aim to give students more options and opportunities, help young people transition through each stage of education equip teachers with training and resources, and improve school infrastructure.

The survey will open Tuesday 13th June and will remain open until Tuesday 4th July 2017.

UNIFORM POLICY

As the new semester commences, I need to reiterate and clarify our policy on piercings. Fashions come and go but are not deemed as part of school uniform policy.

Aims

The aim of the Student Dress Code is to recognise the positive role of clothing in promoting a sense of individual and collective pride in students, and to promote their identification within the school and community.  Students will wear a school uniform as approved by School Council, on the way to school while at school and on the way home. Students are to wear school uniform on excursions.

Some forms of jewellery pose potential health, safety and school image problems

  • Small ear studs and/or sleepers worn in the ears are the only piercings that are permitted
  • Due to health and safety issues nose rings/studs, lip rings/studs and eyebrow rings/studs are not permitted. Students with facial piercings can wear small clear plastic studs as this doesn’t compromise their occupational health and safety guidelines.

The policy / expectations has been constantly promoted and advertised regularly over the last two years. Students with piercings are expected to purchase clear plastic studs or remove the piercing before leaving home to attend school.

Consequences of contravening the jewellery policy will be consistent with the school’s current student management and discipline practices including refusing to comply with a reasonable instruction.

Non-conformance with school uniform and Jewellery policy will result in parents being contacted.
