College Leaders

Sydney

Over the summer break, the 2018 College Captains travelled to Collaroy beach in Sydney, to participate in the Annual Lasallian Student Leadership Seminar. We had the opportunity to experience the magnitude of the entire Lasallian family, not only with other leaders from Australia, but with leaders from Lasallian schools in New Zealand, Pakistan and Papua New Guinea, which amassed to be 94 people in total. The seminar included various presentations by distinguished figures within the Lasallian organisation, such as Brother Visitor David Hawke and Mission council director Merv McCormack. Both men spoke not only about the important traits of a strong leader but also showed us the perspective of leading in the Lasallian tradition, with a focus on faith, community and service. The diversity of students at the seminar brought with it many unique stories and experiences which primarily highlight what an opportunity-rich platform St Bede’s College is, and how we should utilise all aspects it provides us. The whole experience really enhanced our leadership style, and gave us a multitude of tools and an alternate perspective of what it means to be a leader.

Phillip Island

On Tuesday 30 January, the 2018 College Leadership Team traveled to the College’s recently renovated property, in Phillip Island. This was a fantastic opportunity to further develop strong relationships with one another and talk about which direction we wanted to lead the school in 2018. It was also an opportunity to share the valuable lessons we had learnt while in Sydney, and with the guidance of Mr Beaumont, further develop our understanding of what it means to be a leader. After finding some time to have a quick surf and game of backyard cricket, the 15 leaders met with Mr Finn, many for the first time. It was great to get to know the new Principal of the College, and was a great relief to many that he is such a relatable, approachable and understanding individual with our best interests at heart. It is safe to say that all of the students left Cypress Lodge with great inspiration and excitement to get the 2018 year underway, and see what we can accomplish as a team!
