Bet You Didn’t Know That…

Hamish Allan - Year 11

My name is Hamish Allan and I race go karts competitively. I got into go-karting through my Dad, he grew up in a small country town in New Zealand where there was not much to do in his spare time, but there was a go kart track, where many of his friends raced on the weekend and he would often go and watch.

He told me stories about it and I knew that it was what I wanted to do. I have been racing for five and a half years, competing at state level against arguably the best drivers in Australia.

I love go-karting because of the pure adrenaline, high octane racing, driving on the very limit at up to 120 km/h, whilst being less than an inch off the ground, it requires lap after lap of perfection, and ‘practice really does make perfect’ in the sport.

My greatest achievements would probably be qualifying in the top 3 at multiple state events, winning a round of the Victorian country series and racing with the best drivers in Australia and holding my own.

In the future I would like to look at moving to open wheel race cars, like formula vees, taking my next step up the circuit racing ladder, and maybe one day make a career out of my passion.
