Strings Concert Performance

JMSS Careers Day
A big thank you to Ms Kirstine Carter and Mrs Kimberley Whitty who organised the recent Careers Day at JMSS. A great day for the students to gather as much information as possible about their tertiary education future.
Canvas
Canvas is the John Monash Science School Learning Management System (LMS) that supports teachers in delivering a differentiated approach to learning – using traditional face-to-face practices with online technology. It is a cloud-based application which enables students and teachers to access the tools they need for learning and teaching wherever they are. It also enables parents to be enrolled as an observer thereby providing access to student results, assessment tasks and course materials.
At JMSS, we are still in the early stages of adopting Canvas. As we go live to parents, you will be able to view the Assignment page for each subject, the overview of a number of units of work and marks for assessment tasks completed throughout 2019. Now that we have been using Canvas for a full Semester we are reviewing and reflecting the current practice and use of Canvas to deliver continuous reporting and effective feedback to parents and students at JMSS to ensure we deliver the best experience for all Canvas users. The document attached/linked (Canvas Guide for Parents 2019) this Newsletter outlines JMSS' use of Canvas for continuous reporting and answers some frequently asked questions. Additionally, there is a Canvas guide to help parents setup notifications and view student grades and feedback provided to students by their teachers.
Also linked to this Newsletter is an invitation for parents to complete a survey to provide JMSS with feedback on the Canvas LMS. In this survey, we are interested in learning more about your thoughts, feelings, and attitudes towards using the Canvas Learning Management System at the John Monash Science School for delivering continuous reporting. When answering these questions, please consider your current experience of using the Canvas LMS to monitor your student/child's learning progress. If you have more than one child at JMSS please complete the survey from a cumulative experience or viewpoint. This survey is to help us understand different aspects of the parent and Canvas relationship. Your answers will be used in planning and implementing teacher/staff training and changes to how the Canvas LMS is used to deliver continuous reporting. Thank you to those parents who have already completed the survey. We will be collating all survey results over the course of the next few weeks and using this information to guide the implementation of Canvas at JMSS moving forward.
