From the Principal Team

Term 1 is nearing an end and we would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff and wider school community for their support throughout the term. A busy term with classroom learning activities our priority and an impressive range of co-curricular events happening in the last fortnight as you can see reading this newsletter highlighting the range of opportunities offered to our students by dedicated and caring staff.

YEAR 10 BEACON PLEDGE

Next Tuesday 26th March, students, teachers, parents and business partners are invited to support our Year 10 students to make a commitment to their future. Student ambassadors Gemma Voumard, Tylesha Lyons, Maureen Samiaka and Taylah Dicinoski are working with Beacon Co-ordinator Mary-Ann Linehan to organise the schools Pledge day.

The Beacon program is aimed at keeping students at school and providing learning opportunities to assist students in making informed decisions regarding future education, training or employment. The guest speakers for this event were engaging and informative and it will be wonderful to see parents and community members in attendance. Congratulations to Mary-Ann Linehan on her organisation of this terrific event.

HARMONY DAY

Yesterday we celebrated Harmony Day. Harmony Day is dedicated to celebrating Australia’s cultural diversity and is held on March 21st each year. Our VCAL students planned and organised a Harmony Day event for the whole school.

Students were asked to line up on the oval and stand on marked letters that is made up the words, 'HARMONY, We R One'. Our MC Sijapata Kisimba commenced the event with the acknowledgement and a one minute silence to Christchurch victims.

Christine Cole, Principal was called in for the official opening, followed by two performances.

Liaqat Ahmadi, our school captain, using a Drone, took an aerial video and photos of the students holding up orange paper over their heads.  This was followed with a free BBQ sausage and then a Harmony Concert held under the blue shade cloth; organised by some Islander and Afghan background students. We also welcomed guests from the Shepparton English Language Centre.
