From the Principal Team

The end of Term 2 is drawing closer and it has been a very busy time around our school. Our VCE students have just finished their mid-year exams, the Semester 2 timetable has commenced, the Production rehearsals are in full swing and teachers are finalising mid-year reports. Friday 30th June is the last day of Term 2 and we finish at 2.20pm.

MOBILE PHONE POLICY

After consultation with staff and students over the past month, a new mobile phone policy has been developed. School council discussed the details of the policy on Wednesday evening and endorsed the implementation of this policy which will commence at the beginning of term 3.

Shepparton High School recognises that mobile technology is increasingly a part of our 21st century lifestyles.  As such, many students now feel the need to carry a mobile phone. As for all tools, they have a purpose and value, but can also be used inappropriately.  The purpose of this policy is to clarify the use of these technologies in our school setting so that they are used for positive purposes and not as a disruption or distraction to learning. The policy will be uploaded on to our school website and a copy of the policy will be posted home to parents next week.

REPORTING

Have you logged onto our online learning portal XUNO? This year you can follow your child's progress in each subject studied through the School’s online learning portal XUNO. For each subject your child will have at least one assessment task uploaded per term and given feedback on. We hope that reporting on progress more frequently will give you, and your child’s teachers, the opportunity to celebrate your child’s strengths, develop learning plans for improvement,  as well as discuss issues as and when they arise. If you haven’t received an email with your login details please contact the office and we will arrange for this to take place.

At the end of term 2 all year 7-10 students will receive an summary page that maps the student’s learning against the curriculum achievement standards, and places the student on the learning continuum, that best reflect the student’s level of performance and progress. All year 11/12 students will receive a one-page per subject summary that outlines the student’s achievement and effort towards their learning. These reports will be uploaded to our learning portal Xuno for you to download at your convenience.

SHEPPARTON EDUCATION PLAN

 – have your say

As mentioned in the last newsletter and through recent media coverage the Victorian Government has announced it is developing a new ten-year plan to transform Shepparton’s education system.

The Shepparton Education Plan will look at how we can improve education for young people in the area from early learning, through primary and secondary school, and beyond. We want to give students more options and opportunities, help young people transition through each stage of education, equip teachers with training and resources, and improve school infrastructure.

We are consulting widely to help set the direction for the Shepparton Education Plan.  We’ll be looking at how we can:

  • help more students to reach their full potential at school
  • help young people to be happy, healthy and resilient
  • break the link between disadvantage and poorer education outcomes
  • keep young people interested in education
  • ensure every young person has access to the education they need to achieve their goals.

This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity. The Government has committed to developing the plan, and now wants you to help shape the future of education in Shepparton.

The plan will build on the work already done by the Better Together Alliance. No decisions have been made at this stage – so we’re inviting all ideas and perspectives. An Advisory Committee has been established, made up of local educators and community members. Working groups area also being formed around key issues for the plan. We are working towards having a draft plan by the end of the year.

The Victorian Government wants your input to help develop the Shepparton Education Plan.

Parents, guardians and those working with young people have important insights into education in Shepparton at every stage – from kindergarten, through to the experience of students who have recently left school.

Student and teacher workshops will be conducted next week to allow input from our school communities:

Tuesday 27th June, 1.30-3.00pm - Secondary school student representatives

Thursday 29th June, 9.00-11.00am – Teacher representatives

The community workshop will be held at 6.30pm on Thursday 29th June.

More details are available on the webpage. We encourage you to come along, learn about the education plan and have your say. We’re also encouraging you to go online and share your ideas and perspective. Please go to www.engage.vic.gov.au/SheppartonEducationPlan

On this webpage you can:

  • complete the survey
  • leave a message on the comment board
  • register to attend the community workshop.

The Shepparton Education Plan will aim to give students more options and opportunities, help young people transition through each stage of education, equip teachers with training and resources, and improve school infrastructure.

The survey link opened Tuesday 13th June and will remain open until Tuesday 4th July.
