Year 12 Retreat
During Week 1, our Year 12 students attended a study retreat at Deakin University.
Students stayed in residency accommodation on campus and participated in developing essential study habits and revision skills and building relationships with their peers and teachers.
They also experienced an inspiring talk from a motivational speaker, ‘Nathan Hulls’, and study lectures on the requirements for VCE English and English Language.
Staff were impressed with the behaviour and attitude of the students throughout the retreat.
Well done to all who attended - we are looking forward to seeing you achieve your goals.
Such a great 3 day experience!
Year 11 Surf Camp
During Week 1, a group of Year 11 students went on the VCE PE Surf Camp. The camp proved a great start to the year, providing students with opportunities to surf, participate in beach activities, study and form positive relationships with each other and with staff.
School Captains' Report
During Week 1, many of the Year 12s spent three busy days at Deakin University.
After being introduced to the massive campus, we spent time being taught techniques by the respective English lecturers. We were then able to apply these techniques to the corresponding movies ‘The Castle’ and ‘Invictus’.
The next day was spent rotating through note taking, career advice, health and wellbeing and a tour of the university. This tour helped us to comprehend how modern the large campus is and helped us to discover the vast range of extra-curricular activities including, clubs and societies. This gave us a broader understanding of how university involves not just lectures and study but allows for individuals to discover their passions.
During our time at Deakin, we stayed “on res” in stylish apartments suited to a student’s needs.
The students were left inspired by Nathan Hulls, a motivational speaker that taught us to make the most of our strengths and be in control of our destiny.
Throughout the retreat we boosted existing relationships whilst forming new ones. These skills and friendships formed over the span of those three days will benefit us in the year to come.
Thank you to the teachers that not only supervised us, but also provided us with enjoyable activities such as yoga and mindfulness as well as study habits and career advice that will make our Year 12 a year to remember.

Year 11 Captains' Report
After coming off those long holidays, a lot of us would definitely be wishing for more. However, now that we’re back to school we’ve all been needing a little bit of a wake up from the holidays.
Finally returning to school has given us a chance to catch up with friends and teachers, and I would say, many of us have been excited and nervous to come back with our blue shirts and hopefully ready for the start of our VCE studies.
Of course, the work of a handful of students who have decided to volunteer for Peer Support cannot go unnoticed. Some of our Year 11s had volunteered to help welcome, introduce and guide our new Year 7s around our school and participated with them in a variety of activities. This has been a good experience for both the Year 7s and our Year 11 Peer Support Leaders.
This past week has been quite a rollercoaster for the Year 11s, but I hope that everyone will continue to do their best, learn more and enjoy every aspect of school.

Resilience and Gratitude
Our gratitude board is back, out the front of Room V05. Make sure you add your reflection on what you’re grateful for.
Year 12 Study Skills
Last week the Year 12 students participated in Study Skills sessions, working on time management skills, organisation, exam strategies, memory and revision techniques and note taking. These skills will prove to be very valuable throughout the year. We encourage all VCE students to begin utilising these strategies now so that they will become increasingly familiar throughout the year.
Improved Performance Time (IPT)
All VCE students have Study Periods together on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Periods 5 and 6 and Friday Period 6.
The aim is to run all SACs, examinations, level assemblies, guest speakers and other activities during this time to minimise class disruption.
If there are no relevant activities for your child during this time, they are free to go home to study. However, students are more than welcome to stay at school and study.
Attendance
It is a requirement at Lilydale High School that students attend all timetabled classes so that teaching and learning opportunities can be maximised.
If students have reached their limit for absences from class, there is an opportunity for this time to be redeemed. Students can speak to their Year Level Coordinator to discuss making this time up at lunchtime, during afternoon Study Periods or after school.
Towards the end of term, it is imperative that students make up classes they have missed.
Furthermore, it is a requirement that students attend Home Group, even if they have Study Periods, Periods 1 and 2.
Student Absences
Any absences from school must be parent/guardian approved. You can do this through a signed note or you can approve your child’s absences via the Parent Approval Button on Compass.
You can also use Compass to view your student’s past absences.
VCE SAC Redemption
Students will not be granted SAC redemption unless they have a medical certificate or it is a school-approved absence.
If there are extenuating circumstances please let us know and we will make a decision based on the VCAA guidelines.
VCE students and cars
Some students will acquire a car and licence in 2019. PARKING is available in the Stadium Car Park.
NO DRIVER STUDENT MAY TAKE OUT ANOTHER STUDENT IN THEIR CAR DURING SCHOOL HOURS.
Students may obtain their parents’ permission to be driven to and from school in another student’s car. A written note from both students’ parents must be given to the VCE Coordinators before driving another student or siblings.
Students must inform the VCE Coordinators of their licence plate numbers and car make and colour.
Uniform Requirements
As per the school uniform policy, students are not to wear any facial piercings. This includes clear piercings.
Students also need to ensure that they wear white socks without logos.
All Senior School uniform requirements are available through LOWES.
