Principal's Report

As you will be aware, NAPLAN tests were held last week. There is always a great deal of discussion around the worth of these tests. Because we have access to this data, we make the point of using it along with internal data to work out the academic levels of our students, allowing us to focus on each child’s learning. We use this data to inform our teaching and to make sure our students’ learning has the best growth we can. Naplan data provides us with feedback on our teaching and learning programs and helps us to set our future direction to meet the needs of our students. Parents will receive individual results later in the year.

The Mothers’ Day stall organised by our Parents’ Group was once again highly successful with a wonderful selection of gifts available for students to purchase. I hope that the mums enjoyed the gifts selected for them by their sons and daughters.

The College's Annual Variety night is coming up on the 28th of May. I am sure it will be a great night showcasing the talent of our students and I would like to thank Erin Carter, Marina Novelli and Damien Maughan for all the work they have done in organising the event.

As the weather has become quite cold now, all students should be in correct uniform, while keeping warm. It is not compulsory to wear the winter uniform, summer uniform is still acceptable, but the winter uniform is warmer. Either uniform requires the correct socks, not socks with the sporting logos on them

The final 5 weeks of term 2 is a very important time for students. They need to ensure that they remain up to date with their work and complete all assessments to the best of their ability. June 14th will be a student free day allowing staff to complete semester 2 reports. The redemption program for year 10 to 12 students will also be on June 14th, students whose attendance is below 90% will be expected to attend school on that day to redeem their absences, and I encourage all students and parents to monitor their student’s attendance via Compass and to speak to their coordinators if their attendance is below 90%.

During Term 3 I will be taking Long Service Leave. The department has gone through its process to appointment a replacement for me. Chad Ambrose will be Acting Principal for term 3. Chad has an extensive background having worked at Narre Warren P 12 College, Cranbourne Secondary College and is currently Assistant Principal of Dromana Secondary College. I am sure you will all make him welcome.
