CONTINUOUS REPORTING

Next week Point Cook P-9 College will be replacing our current reporting process from two Academic Reports per year, to providing Continuous Reporting every three to four weeks. This new system consists of your child setting his/her own Personal Learning Goals with the guidance of his/her teachers and then developing and applying strategies to achieve these goals.

The cycle of personal learning goals involves four stages:

  • Identifying personal learning goals
  • Developing strategies to achieve the goals
  • Applying the strategies to achieve the goals
  • Achieving the goals and then identifying new goals to begin the next cycle.

What are personal learning goals and why are they important?

Personal learning goals are about improving students’ learning and achievement and building students’ capacity to learn. They give students the opportunity to become active participants in their learning process, empowering them to become independent learners, and motivating them to achieve their full potential.

Students who set their own learning goals have more confidence to take on more challenging tasks, regardless of their ability. Their motivation to improve and master a task is improved and their self-esteem remains strong.

Next Thursday 6th August Continuous Reports go live for you to see your child’s/ren’s first set of Personal Learning Goals for English and Mathematics. They have three weeks to apply the strategies they have developed with the guidance of their teacher/s to achieve their goals.

Please take the time to discuss the Personal Learning Goals your child/ren have chosen for English and Mathematics and support them to apply these strategies to help achieve their goals.

Please Note:

  • All students will also receive an Academic Report at the end of Semester 2
  • All 7-9 students will receive an Interim report at the end of Term 3
  • If your child/ren are using Hardcopy Packs during Remote/Flexible Learning, their report will show Student______________________ has no report data.
  • Whilst we are in Remote/ Flexible Learning students will only be developing goals to achieve for English and Mathematics.
  • Once we return to onsite learning all Curriculum Areas will begin the Continuous Reporting Cycle (as many subject areas require skill based goals which can only be displayed onsite).
