Principal's News

Mandy O'Mara

Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members

The end of week 3 already. I hope that everyone is safe and well!

This term we welcomed our students to Flexible and Remote learning 2.0. It has been wonderful to see them all engaged in learning.

Our students and staff are to be congratulated on the way they have transitioned back to Remote Learning after just a short stint back at school last term. Again, I would like to acknowledge and thank each and every one of our students, staff and of course our parents for the tremendous work they are doing during the most unusual times in education.

For the second time… we are making history!

We have made a few improvements to Remote Learning this time. Feedback suggested we have more face to face time for our P-2 students and we have certainly acted on that feedback.

Last term, "Screens off Friday" was popular with our Primary School Students. It became a fun way for students to show their creativity and talent. We are continuing this into Term 3 and you can see our challenges set and the responses to them on our Facebook page and on our web site.

Musical Instruments: Do you have any musical instruments hanging around at home that you would like to donate? Please feel free to let us take them off your hands.

Building Projects: whilst you have been busy working from home we have had some busy work going on at school. We have almost transformed the Secondary School LOTE Room into a PD centre, complete with kitchen, oven, dishwasher, etc. We have also created a second Food Tech Centre in what was the full cycle space. It has been fully kitted out and thanks to the ES staff is being set up ready for use on our return. Full cycle has taken up home in the STEM building and will be extended to embrace other metal work projects.

Other tasks being undertaken include, the planning and construction of a Japanese garden and a revamp of the Science portable.

In closing, I would like to acknowledge that we are working in very difficult times. If your children/young people are struggling to get on line and complete their learning tasks please contact  us via the college office and we will provide all relevant support.

The advice below comes from the most recent Schools Operation Guide and is information our school community needs to be aware of.

Face coverings in schools

For schools in metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire, all school-based staff must wear face coverings at school, and when travelling to and from school.

Teachers and education support staff will not be required to wear face coverings while teaching, but those who wish to do so, can. Teachers should wear face coverings in other areas of the school when not teaching (for example, in the staffroom, on yard duty and when providing first aid or taking temperatures), and when travelling to and from school.

Students who attend primary school for on- site supervision will not be required to wear a face covering. Students who are aged 12 or over by Year 6 will not be required to wear face coverings. The Victorian Chief Health Officer has advised that it is not practical to require some primary school students to wear face coverings while others are not required to.

Please be aware that there are exemptions for some adults and students over 12 years old.

Yours sincerely,

Mandy O'Mara
