Principal's Report

Dear families and students,

As I write this article, we are still closed to all students and staff whilst DHHS continue the close contact tracing process. We still don’t know when we will be able to reopen and I will continue to provide regular updates via Compass as new developments occur.

I would like to once again acknowledge and appreciate your patience and understanding at this difficult time, but the health and safety of our school community is paramount, and we are strictly following the public health advice of DHHS to ensure the safety of all staff and students.

I know some students have personal belongings at the school and are keen to collect them. However, I’m afraid this will not be possible until the school reopens. As soon as the school is given permission by DHHS to reopen we will facilitate the collection of learning resources in a timely manner.

I thank you for maintaining the respect and privacy of our students who tested positive to coronavirus (COVID-19) and encourage everyone to continuing supporting each other during this time.

Caring for each other

At this difficult time we want to assure everyone in our school community that the College is here for each and every one of you. Growing our resilience and ensuring we promote self-care are really important steps we all can take at this time. Students are encouraged to access our support and reach out to the Wellbeing Team if they need support. Parents and families please also reach to the relevant supports by email if we can be of assistance to you right now.

Wherever you are right now, we encourage to think about the different ways you can show care in your community. Every interaction, every day can make a difference to someone else - a smile, a kind word, a generous or considerate gesture. This ideas relates directly to the wellbeing culture we are creating at TSC, not just this term but into the future. It is about our collective responsibility to ensure all members of our school community feel Connected, Protected and Respected. Some positive ideas you could try today:

  • Tell someone they matter to you – Modelling positive interactions and telling people you care about them is important. They need to hear it right now.  If you are concerned about any student’s wellbeing, please refer to our Wellbeing Team to ensure support is put in place.
  • Do the self-care activities from our wellbeing team – Students can use the activities to help students develop Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness. Maybe right now this is something you can do as a family.
  • Follow us on Facebook for regular updates, tips and positive content

We are Tarneit Senior College and we are stronger together!

Remote learning study tips

Orygen Youth Health  have put together some study tips to help students in managing work and study in a time of covid-19

These are some tips to make this transition a little easier:

  • Set-up a dedicated study space that provides some quiet space for you to concentrate or try using headphones if you don’t have a quiet spot available.
  • Consider setting up an online study group with your friends or classmates at a set time each week to touch base, share study tips and stay connected.
  • Plan out your day! It can be helpful to schedule your study time to keep things ticking over but it can also be helpful to set reminders for breaks, food and to make sure you head outside for some fresh air. If it helps, set an alarm to keep your schedule on track.
  • Eliminate distractions where you can - let those around you know if you need 1-2 hours of uninterrupted time if it’s possible. Put your mobile phone in the other room and only use your browser for study-related content.
