Term 2, Week 2 Snapshot

Home Learning

We will begin conducting regular Google Meets session next week, starting with a whole class  session on Monday at 9:30am. This will be an opportunity for students to ask their teacher any questions about the work set for that week.  We will then be conducting small group sessions for Tuesday - Friday. The classroom teacher will post more information about this on their class's Google Classroom on Monday.

At the end of each day, we have asked the students to reflect on their work for that day. This will be through the Google Classroom and teachers will be using this information to help mark the school roll, to ensure all students are engaging with home learning tasks.

We thank you again for you understanding and support.

English

Reading

This week, we are continuing on with Running Wild, by Michael Morpurgo and will be reading Chapter 3. They will need to keep notes as they read for one of the next tasks. The students will have a session for reading the chapter, as the chapters are quite long. They need to find a space they can sit and read for an extended period of time, as this helps with their reading stamina. The students will then need to complete a word study related to vocabulary from the chapter. It would be good to use a dictionary for the word study, but the internet is a good second option. Finally, the students will use the notes they made while reading to complete a story map for the chapter.

Writing

This term, students will work towards writing a chronological report based on The Life of Charles Dickens and their own research.  During Week 2, students will order and organise key events and information, creating a timeline of Charles Dickens' life.

Mathematics

This week, the students will begin with reviewing three-dimensional shapes. This will include work sketching prisms, drawing 3D shapes on isometric paper (there is a link to this resource in the slides) and drawing nets for 3D shapes.

Access to additional mathematics work can be found through Mathletics and students can continue to work through their personal goals using My Numeracy.

Unit of Inquiry

This week, students will be focusing on the Central Idea, skills and strategies needed to take effective action. Students are writing descriptive statement about images presented on the Unit of Inquiry slides. Students will be researching and answering questions about action. Students will be unpacking the steps required to take action from different scenarios around the community/world. Students will begin to link action types into similar groups.

Contact

We encourage and celebrate student voice in Grade 6. If students have any concerns or questions, they can comment or post on either the whole cohort or individual class Google Classrooms. Teachers receive notifications when students post and will respond when possible. Students should also communicate questions and ideas relating to learning with each other using the two Google Classrooms. This will keep them connected and allow them to see each other's progress.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email your child’s teacher through compass.

Reminders

Children must have Google Classroom notifications turned on to ensure they are receiving communications from their classroom teacher and their peers.

Students will need to check their google classroom to find out when their small group session will be for week 2. This session time mat change the following week, but teacher's will share this information with the students if and when it is finalised.

Specialist Team

The Specialist team will be organising tasks for the students through their iNewsletter which can be accessed from here or the link the Specialists will send out each week. Please contact Mrs Travis or Mrs Goosey if you have any questions.
