12 Skill Challenge-Throwing and Catching
Equipment required:
2 x tennis balls
Beanbag (a small soft toy or pair of folded adult socks will do)
Wall space
Teaching Points:
• Look at the ball in the air and watch it land into your hands
• Put your little fingers together and make a “birds’ nest or bowl” for a 2 handed catch
• Stand with you your feet shoulder width apart
• To catch have your elbows in front of your body
• Try to move your hands with the ball so that your hands are relaxed and soft when you catch the ball.
Watch the following video LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wk59o3zJ3w0 and go through the skills with Cam. Remember if you can do a trick 5 times in a row move onto the next challenge. If you find a skill too hard keep practising. Throw the ball up to head height or just above.
The wall challenge is to see how many left to right then right to left handed catches you can do in 30 seconds. Have an extra ball handy and if you drop the ball after say 4 catches, the next successful catch is 5.
Do the skills again using 1 hand or your non-dominant hand to catch, e.g if you write with your right hand, use your left.
Additional Activities.
1) Make up your own 12 skill challenge to test mum, dad or a brother or sister.
2) Go back to the soccer skills from last week and see what areas you can improve on :
Art - Tuesday
We are going to continue with your memory book this week too. Remember this project is all about your time at BPS. Have a think before you start the task today of some of your favourite memories of school.
Your task today is to create the third and fourth pages of your book that you started last lesson. This will be a double page drawing. Keep your work loose in your Specialist home learning book.
Task:
Draw a picture of you with your friends in grade 6. Here are some ideas of the things you could do. You can choose one of these or come up with your own idea.
You and your friends in class
You and your friends catching up after school
You and your friends playing a game
Start your drawing with a grey lead pencil to draw the outline.
You can add colour or add shading to make it a black and white tonal drawing.
Reflection:
What makes a good friend?
What is your favourite memory with your friends?
How can you stay connected with your friends?
