Physical Education - Monday

Dear Parents,

Please find below this week's PE work. We appreciate how challenging this process can be for everyone so I hope that we are offering work which is user friendly. The link below gives you the work in written form if your child can read and the 2 x youtube clips give the information visually if this is best for your child.

Please remember that there is no set amount of work to get through just being active for 25/30 minutes, obviously some students will get through more skills than others which is fine.

Equipment required:

Larger ball

Tennis Ball

A partner

Mascot Challenge: Throwing and Bouncing. Start on page 3.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIJvnZPkdhg

Teaching Points for Throwing:

  1. Stand straight upright, ball in your throwing hand and stand side on to your target.
  2. Make sure your feet are shoulder-width apart.
  3. Lift your non-throwing arm to “point” at your target and shift your weight to your back foot.

      4.  Lift your throwing hand so the ball is near your ear. Step forward, throw, weight onto the front foot and follow through.

Bouncing:  Mascot Challenge Week 3 (2minutes/29secs)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrZx5JlcvWs&t

Teaching Points for Bouncing with one hand:

  1. Soft “spider fingers” to push the ball down, not the palm so should not hear slapping sounds.
  2. Push the ball down to rebound to hip height.
  3. Bounce the ball slightly in front of your body and to the side.
  4. The aim is to have control whilst moving and eventually not looking at the ball.

Additional Activities:

Attempt the Mascot Challenge games (week 4) with a partner, you will find these follow on from the bouncing activities. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrZx5JlcvWs&t

Art - Tuesday

Task:

We are going to continue on with our shadow puppets and storytelling through art. Today, we are going to make a shadow puppet theatre! This way you can make a story with your shadow puppet that you made last lesson and present it to the whole house at home.

You will need:

A cardboard box (any size you like, could also be a shoe-box)

Tissue paper

Scissors

Masking tape

Black marker or permanent pen

Lamp or torch to light your theatre

Watch the video to show you how to make a theatre:

Reflection:

What was a challenge when making the theatre?

How did you find performing your puppet and story to your home audience?

For Parents:

Your child/ren might like to perform the show that they have made to you. Give them time to practice what they are going to say first and then let them perform.

You don’t have to use a cardboard box, a shoe-box or similar will do nicely as well.

Please talk to your child/ren about the reflection questions.

Performing Arts - Thursday

GRADE 1- WEEK 5

Hi Grade 1s!

Hope you’re enjoying your home learning with ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ so far.

For today’s lesson, you don’t need pencils or paper, just yourselves and your imagination!

We’re going to do a bit of Role-Play.

Role play means that you pretend to be someone else or to be somewhere else.

Task 1: Today you’re going to pretend to be Max.

But first, you need to have a think. At the beginning of the story, Max is in trouble with his Mum and she calls him ‘wild thing’ and sends him to his room.

Think:

  • Why do you think Max’s Mum was cross with him?
  • What did Max do that made his Mum send him to his room?

Parents: If you’re able, please go through the questions with your child(ren).

Look at the pictures in the story and ask your child(ren) what clues they might be able to see that could give them some ideas.

Please note that there are no right or wrong answers for these questions; just whatever ideas your child(ren) come up with.

Feel free to re-watch the story on-line, or read the storybook if you have a copy at home. (Here’s the Youtube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jD1-f9C3CeE)

Task 2: Now have a go at creating a short role-play that shows what Max did and explains what happened before he was sent to his room.

Pretend you are Max and act out what he did.

Think:

  • What kind of things might Max do and say?
  • What will Max’s voice sound like?
  • How will you use or change your face and body to show how Max is feeling?

Parents: If you’d like to role-play with your child(ren) and take on the role of Max’s Mum (or Dad), that’s fine. Or, if you prefer, use the questions above to ‘side-coach’ and help your child(ren) really put themselves into Max’s shoes.

Remember: There’s no right or wrong answer. Just enjoy yourselves and have fun playing the role of ‘wild thing’ Max!
