Houses/Interschool Sport Report
On Thursday 8 March, 50 Koonung students from Years 7-12 competed at the Whitehorse Division Swimming and Diving Competition at Aquanation in Ringwood. The spirit and enthusiasm demonstrated by our students was amazing and I felt privileged to be a part of it. When you consider our smaller student population compared to the other Whitehorse Division schools, our efforts are even more creditable.
The fact that we had four age-group champions at the end of competition speaks volumes for the drive and commitment shown by our students. Congratulations to the following students for their fantastic individual efforts on the day:
Keira Tait 13 Year Girls
Callyn Fenwick-Kearns 15 Year Boys
Vanessa Ponza 20 Year Girls
James Elward 20 Year Boys
Final Standings were
East Doncaster SC 889 points
Blackburn HS 879
Box Hill HS 681
Koonung SC 677
Box Hill Senior SC 101
Six students have qualified for EMR Swimming on Tuesday 27 March at Aquanation. Koonung has fourteen individual entries and two relay entries. Callyn Fenwick-Kearns will be a busy boy with five individual races and 2 Relay events on the day. Good luck to all students at this event.
I would like to acknowledge the invaluable support of parents and staff on the day as well.
Lesley Fulford (Koonung Education Support staff member), Anna Tait (mother of Keira Tait in Year 7), Joanne Pooley (mother of Mitchell Pooley in Year 8), Lisa Deng (mother of Jonny Yan in Year 7) and Katrina Bacon (mother of Mitchell Bacon in Year 7) did an amazing job as timekeepers. Koonung is very fortunate to have so many parents volunteer their time to support our school.
Kim Adams (Teacher Candidate) did an admirable job as announcer on the day.
Six students qualified for EMR swimming on Tuesday 27 March at Aquanation. Koonung had 12 individual entries and 2 relay entries. Koonung was the 20th ranked school (out of 39) after the competition, which was a fantastic effort.

On Thursday 15 March, the Senior Boys Baseball team (coached by Mr Sheehan) progressed to the EMR Finals after a resounding win against Blackburn.
The Senior Girls Hockey team (Mr Kofoed) automatically qualified for the EMR Finals as Koonung was the only school that fielded a team.
The Senior Boys and Girls Volleyball teams (Mr Oaten) were involved in tough competitions on the same day but did not get through to the next stage.
On Monday 19 March, the Year 7 students competed in Whitehorse Division competitions for Volleyball (Ms Sens), Baseball (Mr Wood) and Softball (Mr Emerson). It was great to see so many Year 7 students representing the school. The fact that they were not able to qualify for Region was unimportant. They showed great team spirit and represented Koonung with pride and great sportsmanship.
On Friday 23 March, Koonung had 5 teams (19 students from Years 10-11) competing at the EMR Lawn Bowls Competition at Balwyn North Bowls Club. We didn’t get through to the next stage but all students had an enjoyable day in ideal conditions.
Monday 26 March saw the Year 8 students compete in Volleyball, Softball and Baseball at Division level.
