Year 11 Mental Health First Aid Awards

Teen Mental Health First Aid training has been provided to all Year 11 students skilling them in helping their friends. This course, funded by VIC Police, enables students to identify emerging mental health problems through warning signs they notice in their friends. Students have learnt to notice when a change for someone begins to affect their daily life and doesn’t go away quickly. They also learnt how to connect their friend with a responsible and trustworthy adult. Students who have completed the three sessions were awarded their Teen Mental Health First Aid certificate of completion. Make up sessions will be offered to students who have not yet completed all three sessions early next term.  For more information about mental health first aid go to www.mhfa.org.au.

Thanks to Ms Hayward for organising this event.

On Tuesday 17th September, Year 11's were celebrated through recognition of successes throughout the year. Those students who have excelled academically; participated in school events; and who demonstrate the College values of Respect, Responsibility and Achievement were acknowledged and awarded with certificates. The leadership process for next year’s 2020 school captains was also presented with students now setting goals to complete their applications by early next term.

Linking in with our College’s Improvement Plan of building community awareness and encouraging our students to engage with our community, the Local Area Commander- Inspector Zorka Dunstan and Leading Senior Constable, Jo Mutsaerts from Victoria Police, also recognised our students by presenting them with their Teen Mental Health First Aid certificates, encouraging positive and engaging relationships with our local police.
