Parent, Student & Teacher Interviews/Reports

Thursday October 10th

Parent Teacher conferences – An important 10 minutes to help your child build success for the rest of 2019 as well as ensuring the skills needed for success next year.

One of the most important keys to a child’s success is the positive involvement of parents in what goes on at school. As a parent, you have the biggest influence on your child’s life.  You can help teachers understand more about your child and how to help them be the best that they can be in all aspects of their lives including academic success.

Positive parent-teacher relationships contribute to your child’s school success.  Interim reports are now available on the Compass portal. This will give you a picture of how well your child is currently doing in a range of classes. Parent Teacher Conferences will be held Thursday October 10 (first week back after the holidays).  These give you the chance to talk with teachers about what is on track – and what things need to be worked on.

As the parent of an adolescent, it won’t surprise you to know that students don’t always ‘share’ what happens at school. Parent teacher interviews are one way of maintaining contact with school and staying in the loop. During the interview, you can help teachers understand more about your child - what they're like at home, what interests and excites them, and explain any issues at home that may be affecting your child at school.

Things you might like to consider during this meeting include:

* Asking what skills and knowledge your child will expected to master during the rest of the year.

* Ask for concrete examples of things you can do at home to help. What can you do to help if your child is finding things really difficult?

* Ask what support here is if your child is struggling with their learning.

* It’s a good chance to ask about homework that might be set – and to get some ideas about you can support your child with this.
