Deputy Principals' Report

Indigenous Perspective within a St Finbar's setting in Reconciliation Week.
On Tuesday night we had the privilege of hearing Fiona Ireland (yes, mother of our amazing Miss Ireland of 3I fame) speak to us about how they have authentically incorporated Indigenous culture into their Early Childhood setting. Together we discussed ways in which we could authentically bring the Indigenous perspective into our classrooms, playgrounds, learning and within the wider community. Already the John Ashe has indigenous plants growing and these will be investigated by class groups. Of great interest to us, was when Fiona said that in working with Murrindindi, he was all about moving forward and the past was in the past. It is in teaching our children to be inclusive advocates for, and with the peoples of the First Nation, that reconciliation may be achieved.
Peaceful Kids program
Thank you to Angie for speaking at assembly on Monday and handing out brochures and chatting with parents and children. Angie will be in touch and we are hoping to start this effective evidenced based program, on a Thursday morning before school, next term.
Peaceful Kids’ is a Mindfulness and Positive Psychology based program to lessen anxiety and stress and increase resilience in children. The program gives children the skills, practice and support to utilise coping strategies that lessen the symptoms of anxiety and stress. The program also involves parental involvement and commitment to supporting the strategies at home.
