Classroom News - Year 6

Maths in Action

Did you know that playing golf actually has something to do with Maths? This week began unpacking the skills of "reading and representing integers of any size and describing properties of whole numbers". In particular we have learnt about negative and positive numbers numbers (integers). Students have had the opportunity to practice their putting skills while recognising that taking more shts needed becomes a positive number and score, and taking less shots needed to complete our mini putt putt course gives you a negative scorre - which is good! So far Mr Garraud beat Mrs Walters, and Jack is leading the class on the leaderboard with a score of -1!

English

Our English focus this term is on persuasive texts and we began the unit by watching a short clip called "Pigeon Impossible". Students then had to use emotive language to convince an audience of the pigeon's innocence after nearly causing WW3.

The Long Awaited Return

We are happy to report that as a cohort, your children have made a positive return to full-time, onsite and almost 'normal' routine.

We have launched back into Literacy blocks, Maths blocks and Religion lessons with beginning to look at "If you were in charge of the country, what would you change to improve human rights??"

Most students returned with drink bottles and hats, along with enough jumpers for the colder weather, and a great attitude!

Your children have been able to merge into existing friendships, but have also been observed socialising with new friends that they have made over these last few months.

This is a great foundation for us as teachers to spring from, hence you should be proud of your children and the maturity and resilience they have shown.

Recent Experiences

Considering recent weeks have been a gradual return to school, the students have had some exciting learning experiences!

[] Monday - We celebrated the Feast day of Mary Help of Christians

[] Tuesday - Acknowledged and unpacked the significance of National Sorry Day

[] Wednesday - We enjoyed the booking and craft activities of 'Chicken Diva' in the 2020 National Storytime

[] Friday - Students enjoyed the virtual performance of Musica Viva on Friday funded by your school's 'Activity Fee'

Phew - and that was just in a week!
