Visual Art News

Term 3 has seen the development of a number of murals around the College.  Year 11 Visual Arts in Practice students are being mentored by urban / street artist Gus Eagleton, to create murals in small groups within the Art courtyard as part of their current unit of work, “The Wall.” During his time at the college, Gus also developed his own mural to demonstrate the capabilities and various techniques and effects that can be achieved with spray paint. We are very fortunate to have been able to invite such a high profile artist to work with our students.

This same group of students has also worked on a large-scale artwork this term for the primary school, which displays a very strong environmental message. The idea is that each piece of plastic litter that is picked up from the ground in the primary area is to be glued onto the mural; in doing so, this presents a very strong message about protecting our environment, with even the smallest piece of litter creating damaging and long-lasting effects.

Further mural work is underway outside the boarders’ dining room. During Art Club, the boarders are adding some much-needed colour to the area through the creation of a mural about food, which is being produced in the Pop-Art style.
