Year 11 Construction Immersion

Construction Immersion Day - Friday, August 22

The floating deck is certainly taking shape and the Friday Construction Immersion Day went ahead as planned however the weather was not the usual Queensland standard. The students had to adapt to the wet worksite and negotiate their movements and activities for the day with extra care.

As you can see from the images, a fair bit of work has been completed over the past weeks. The decking has been completed and now trimmed at either side. The students have had the posts up for a while now and work had begun on preparations for the skillion roof. From the posts, the bearers have been housed and bolted in place. Working at height makes this more difficult therefore the use of ladders and scaffolding are utilised to ensure safe work practices at all times. The rafters have also been triple gripped in place and the batons were screwed in place. Some diagonal galvanised metal bracing was also attached for cyclone rating. All in all, it has been a very successful couple of weeks and the students are very proud of the high standard of work achieved.
