Coordinator's Report

This year has been my third season coordinating high school rugby in Armidale. It has been our most successful season yet! We have 44 students from Year 7 through to Year 12 representing themselves, their family and their school with pride and dignity. Our girls have been able to stand alone and compete as Armidale Secondary College. Our boys have combined with O’Connor Catholic College and other smaller schools to form Armidale Junior Rugby Union.

I have the pleasure and honour of coaching the Under 18s Boys team. At first glance one may wonder why there are only three boys in the u/18s squad from ASC ... but this is misleading because we actually had 12 boys in the team which defeated Farrer 1sts who have been at ASC . It just so happens that nine of those boys finished school last year or were apprentices in the workforce this year.

A big shout out must go to ASC parents Kate Thornton and Boyd Blackwell for helping out every week with our Under 14s. They made  great contributions in driving our ASC boys everywhere, as well as running the touchline during rugby games.

Teachers Andrew Cook and Louise Drielsma combined with SLSO Skye Gordon-Briggs every Friday night of Term 3 to give our girls' teams the opportunity to play against other regional schools and clubs. It was such a proud moment last week in Tamworth to have our girls take to the field against the best from the region. Both our Under 14s and Under 16s Girls teams acquitted themselves well to finish 3rd after those matches.

We can’t wait till the 2021 season starts, and are all we looking forward to playing on the new oval at our new school.

Under 14s Girls Player's Report

Although we were happy to win the 3rd place play off in Tamworth we were disappointed not to have made the Grand Final. It was very hot in  Tamworth on finals days and I think this affected our performance.

As a team we definitely improved as the season went on. We had some real good wins versus NEGs, PLC, TAS and O’Connor this year.

We are really looking forward to next season and I think if we keep our team together we will do better next year.

Under 16s Girls Player's Report

Our Under 16s Girls rugby union team had a challenging but rewarding  year. Regularly on a Friday night we lined up O’Connor, NEGS, PLC and the Inverell Highlander's club rugby side.

We loved the Friday night competition even if we were often in the freezing wind and cold at UNE. The girls worked hard to get to the finals in Tamworth where they got third place overall.

In the third place playoff against our local rivals PLC, Patricia Dixon scored the first try in but had to leave the field injured. Tykeisha Collins scored four tries in the play off and Laura Grant scored one try in an emphatic win 32-12.

Thanks to all the girls who played this year we appreciate all the hard work and hope to see you again next year. We really appreciate the staff who took their own time to help us this year.
