Year 4 Spotlight

Online Learning in Year Four

Remote leaning 2.0 has been an even bigger success for us in Year 4 than 1.0. Through our main focus of group meetings, we have all been able to have regular ‘catch ups’ and all feel more connected with each other. These group sessions have been a great way for us to learn new concepts, share our learning, and give and receive meaningful feedback.

Realistic Fiction

This term we have been exploring, planning and writing our own ‘Realistic Fiction’ texts. We have been focusing on adding more detail by using interesting adverbs, adjectives and similes, and by including lots of action. We have also been looking at including dialogue and punctuating correctly. Here are some extracts from some of our stories for you to enjoy!

Inquiry

Our inquiry unit this term has covered the history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, examining European exploration and colonisation in Australia and throughout the world up to the early 1800s.

We first examined the diversity and longevity of Australia’s first peoples and the connections of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Country and Place. Here are some of our projects we have created; we hope you can learn something new!

Afterwards we researched reasons for exploration across land and sea. We also investigated stories from The First Fleet, including life for a convict. Here are some of our child convict letters we wrote.

Reflections

‘I enjoyed the class calls because you get to see everyone and feel part of the class and community. My favourite learning activity was making up a story for our realistic fiction writing. I have learned about explorers and I researched about Amelia Earhart.’ ~ Tia D, 4A

‘I’ve enjoyed having lots of meetings. My favourite activity was in writing doing my realistic fiction. I’ve also learnt how to navigate Google Classroom.’ ~ Zoe G, 4B

‘I liked remote learning because it's at my house. My favourite activity was writing. Something new I have learnt was making a mask.’ ~ Cooper R, 4C
