NATIONAL RIDE, WALK and SCOOT TO SCHOOL DAY

FRIDAY, 22nd MARCH

In a couple of weeks, on Friday the 22nd March it is National Ride2School Day. I would love to see our students committing to active travel with an adult on this day.

Physical activity is so important for wellbeing. In the 1970s, 8 out of 10 students rode or walked to school. Today the national average is 2 out of 10. Active travel is an easy way to help students get their daily amount of exercise (60 minutes a day). Did you know that students are more ready to learn after actively travelling to school?

I have certainly noticed a rise in the number of students engaging in active travel to and from school on their scooters. On this day it would be great to see students having some fun and ‘dressing up’ their scooters.

And you don’t have to have a scooter to be involved in the day. You can use foot power and walk to school. You could dress up your feet in some colourful socks. Make it a social exercise, by meeting and collecting friends and families on your route. You never know whose familiar face you might meet as you make your way to school! Remember part way is okay if you live far away.

Remember to follow the road rules and wear a helmet when riding any wheeled device to school. And remember to dismount and walk or carry any wheeled devices inside the school grounds.

CLASSROOM HELPERS WORKSHOP 2019

To support our Literacy Program a Classroom Helpers Information Session for parents/grandparents will be held in the next couple of weeks, on Friday 22nd March.

The aim of this workshop is to support parents and grandparents so they feel confident to assist in the classroom during Literacy times; know what to expect; and have a greater understanding of how we teach students the skills of reading, writing and speaking and listening, as well as digital literacy. Parents who cannot help in the classroom, but would like to find out more about our Literacy Program are most welcome to come along. We have also found that undertaking this workshop helps parents feel more confident supporting their children at home with their daily reading.

There are many benefits of being a helper, not only for yourselves in contributing to the school community, but also for your children to see the value you place on learning. The session will run for approximately one and a half hours.

This session will be held on Wednesday, 22nd March, starting at 9.15am in the Out of School Hours Care area (old library).

Please look out for the notice on Flexibuzz in the coming days.

On behalf of all teachers we look forward to working with you!
