Moments in Science

Science around the School - Year 1: Mad Scientist Day
During Week 3 of this term, students in Year 1 delighted in the chance to engage in a Science Extravaganza for the entire day! To complement the term's Integrated Unit of Inquiry about How Toys Work, class teachers each donned their lab coats and led individual sessions that the students rotated through. With a design focus, the different activities encouraged creative thinking, team work, applying scientific principles and FUN!
A big thank you to Sharon, Cassie, Annabelle, George, Kirsty and Anita for all the time and preparation that went into your learning sessions about Magnetism, Pulleys, Impact Reduction, Thrust via Rockets and Tension, Torsion and Gravity via Catapults.
2018 Science Talent Search
The Science Talent Search (STS) is an annual, science based competition open to primary and secondary students in Victoria. This event requires students to complete a science project at home and present it to the STS judges at the Special Judging Day on the 4th of August.
Due to the overwhelming interest from the eligible year levels (3-6), we have reached our maximum capacity of entries for this year's competition. We encourage those that have expressed interest to commence their projects with passion and gusto. Best of luck!
Year 6 Science Elective
Elective Science lesson in 2018 have had a Consumer Science as the major focus, our Junior Scientists have been developing their Chemistry skills by making their own products and will have the opportunity to be the judge and road test various products to test their claims.
ICAS Science
A reminder to those students who have registered. ICAS Science will be held on Tuesday 29th of May at CHPS. We hope you enjoy applying all of your Science skills and knowledge. Wishing you the best of luck!
ICAS Science assesses students’ skills in the key scientific areas of:
- Observing and measuring - Noting and measuring features of items and phenomena
- Interpreting data - Interpreting diagrams, tables and graphs
- Applying data - Including inferring, predicting and concluding
- Investigating - Experimental design, use of controls and notion of ‘fair test’
- Higher-order skills - Including reasoning and problem solving
