SAMBELL LODGE LAND ACQUISITION UPDATE

Dear Parents and Carers

Prior to the announcement of this year's State Budget, I received a call from Richard Wynne MP updating me on the Sambell Lodge land acquistion project.  I am pleased to let you know that the Labour Government remains committed to the purchase of the current Sambell Lodge site for Clifton Hill Primary School.  This is a wonderful result for our school as it will will provide much needed additional facilities for our students  as we continue to grow.  Please read Mr Wynne's letter to our school community below.  I look forward to keeping you up to date with information regarding this project.

Dear Parents and Students,

As your local member, I’m delighted to share with you the news that this year’s State Budget includes funding to purchase land for the extension of Clifton Hill Primary School.

The funding is in addition to the planning funding provided in the 2015/16 State Budget. The Victorian School Building Authority have considered high-level options for the future site as part of this planning.

The Victorian Budget 2018/19 also provided funding in order to the secure the site.

We are continuing to design the new school facilities at the Brotherhood of St Laurence site – negotiations are ongoing with the Brotherhood of St Laurence about the timing of the acquisition.

It’s another big boost to education for our community, after it was announced last week that we’re providing $500,000 to plan a new senior campus for Collingwood College and Fitzroy High School at the Fitzroy Gasworks site.

And it’s all part of the nearly $1.3 billion we’re investing in schools in suburbs and towns all over Victoria.

We're making sure that all Victorian students have access to quality local schools.

Yours sincerely,

Richard Wynne MP

Curriculum Day Report

On Tuesday 24th May all staff participated in a School Improvement professional learning day led by a team of staff elected teachers and aides.  We considered our strengths as a school and professional body of educators and identified key areas of our school climate that we will focus on improving in the coming months.

Thanks to Kate Boswell, Melinda Wilson, Charlotte White, Jarrod Ward, Kate Walder and Sarah Ryan for facilitating a very rigorous and engaging day.

Staffing Update

Sarah Dimond will be leaving us at the end of week 5.  We wish Sarah and James all the best with the birth of their first child.  Michael Masters will be taking over her role as classroom teacher of 5SD.  We are currently seeking to recruit a PE teacher to replace Michael.

We would also like to congratulate Sarah Ryan and Natasha Taylor who have both recently announced that they are pregnant.  We expect both Sarah and Natasha to be with us until the end of term 3.

Dana Corben and Rose Watson have replaced Peta Hirschfeld as classroom teacher of 3PH.  Peta will be back at the beginning of term 3.  Voula Therios will be replacing Dana in the library for the remainder of the term.

Community afternoon tea

The first of our five community afternoon teas will be held on Friday 1 June from 3.30 in the Page Street.  Organised by the Community Building sub-committee of School Council, we hope  these regular, informal get-togethers provide many in our school community a chance to connect with families from across the school.  Our first afternoon tea will be hosted by grade 5 families who will be asked to bring in food for the event.  We hope to see many of you there.
