EARLY ADMISSIONS
Congratulations to the many students who have been successful at Early Admission interviews for University of Wollongong. It is wonderful to see students being rewarded for their potential in their areas of interest. The diversity of student future interest is always interesting. The different courses students were offered positions for 2018 include: Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Pre-Med, Engineering honors, Law and Psychology,, Medical Radiology, Health Science and Creative Arts.
YEAR 11 INTERVIEWS
Currently interviews are being conducted with students in Year 11 to ensure their options beyond Year 12 are on track or to help in the decision-making process. This is an exciting time for them as they now enter into the HSC year and it is important for them to do their personal research and planning.
TO DROP A SUBJECT the process is
1) BEFORE INTERVIEW students are required to:
go to the Lake Illawarra High School Careers website https://www.lakeillawarrahighcareers.com/
Go to the Student secure area and update/ complete the career planner section and any quizzes
2) BOOK IN AN INTERVIEW
- during a free period or in the subject they are thinking of dropping.
- put name on sheet outside the careers door (currently in F block)
3) FILL OUT YELLOW DROPPING SHEET FORM
4) INTERVIEW with CA with signed paperwork
- collect this from my office before the interview
FINANCIAL LITERACY COURSE
Last term a class of Year 10 students took part in the Financial Literacy Cert I course run by the Smith Family here at our school. During the two-day session students learnt about the financial concerns and traps to do with tax, superannuation and loans. This was a practical workshop to develop their knowledge as well as providing them with a national qualification.
The ongoing support by the Smith Family with this free workshop is always appreciated.
FIRST AID COURSE
All of year 10 are invited to participate in a two-day workshop to complete their First Aid Certificate. Notes will be distributed to students and the workshop will be on the 29th- 30th November. This will be a heavily subsidized course to ensure all can participate. Any students who missed out last year are also welcome to participate.

http://lakeillawarrahighcareers.com as it has lots of information for you to research or help students in planning future ideas. All Year 10 students have been actively using the website in Careers lessons this year.
The Lake Illawarra High School Careers Facebook page also has useful information of upcoming events, jobs and courses. It is important to like the page to know what is happening here at school and in the wider community
External VET Courses
Students keen to do external VET subjects in 2019 can find out the courses on offer on the EVET website.https://evet.nsw.edu.au/evet_courses/
This opens on the 13th August and has various subjects on offer to students in current years 9 - 11. Subjects could be for one year or over two years and students will need to find own transport to the course.
Students wishing to apply can see Mrs Willingham for more details and need to pick up an Expressions of Interest form (attached) , fill out and submit by 21st September to the Careers Office. There is no guarantee that students will be selected but there is no acceptance of late applications.
These courses are suited for students who have an interest or clear career path that while at school they can develop.
