Principal's Message
The HSC exams are in full swing and from what I have heard from our students is, so far, so good!
The feedback I have received from the exam supervisors on how the students have conducted themselves has been really positive.
Well done to you all!
The school is well into its planning for 2019 and beyond and our focus is firmly on student engagement and attainment. We are very interested in the opinions of the students and parents of our school and how we as a school, can further cater for the diverse needs of our students. We have also been working very closely with our Communications Directorate, to help to gather and interpret this data but also these opinions of our partner primary schools and their communities. All of which will help drive how we connect with our students, parents and wider community.
Meanwhile our students continue to excel in many different areas. As mentioned by Mr Wilson, in his Deputy Principals report, Jarrod Dyer goes from strength to strength with his swimming and we are ever amazed by his talents.
We also have a new rising star on the Athletics track with Chelsea Ezeoke of Year 7 having recently returned from the NSW All Schools Athletics carnival where she excelled and has now been selected in the NSW All Schools team to compete at the Australian All Schools Championships in Cairns in December. A wonderful effort!
We continue to strive to improve the facilities that our students can enjoy here at Lake High. The multipurpose courts have been completed and our focus now turns to converting an old change room and shower block into state of the art flexible classrooms. Mr Wilson will be sending out surveys to parents and student for feedback on what this could look like. We are hopeful that this will be completed in 2019.
To our students, please keep taking responsibility for your learning....the rewards are great.
Regards
Tony Hicks

Deputies' Report

Welcome back!
Welcome to Term 4. This is going to be a very busy term here at Lake, as we move into the final term for 2018, we still have assessment tasks which our students need to complete. All of which will contribute towards your child’s final assessment and yearly report. These assessments, a mixture of practical and theoretical, will be issued to your child in the coming weeks and can I remind everyone that if you are unsure of what needs to be completed, please speak to the class teacher for assistance.
Term 4 also brings that environmental change of beautiful warm weather and sometimes hot weather. It is important that every child practices sun safety. Sun cream should be applied before students arrive to school and particularly before your child completes outdoor lessons such as, PE, Marine studies or Agriculture. On this note, can I remind everyone about our school uniform policy, football shorts are not part of our school uniform and should not be worn at school.
As we move into term 4, I would like all our students to make an extra effort to arrive at school on time. I know term 4 is an exciting time but it is also important to maintain positive habits and continue to do the right thing. If you have a look at the table below, you can see
Missing 1 to 2 days a week doesn’t seem like much but……….
How about 10 minutes late a day? Will that make any difference?
In the final weeks of last term parents and staff celebrated the achievements of our year 12 cohort and watched them graduate with pride. This was a very well-run assembly and I would like to acknowledge the work of Ms Carrasco (Year 12 Adviser Term 4), Ms Wells (Year 12 Assistant Term 4) for organising the assembly. It was one of the best attended assemblies in many years and it was great to see our school hall at capacity to celebrate Year 12. I would also like to congratulate Year 12 and wish them the best of luck for their HSC exams. I know they are all studying hard and will give it their best efforts! Good luck.
Last term, we saw the completion of our schools new multi-use courts, this $160 000 upgrade to our school will now see students having the ability to engage in lunch time and PE lesson sports/activities such as, basketball, Netball, Volleyball, European Handball and indoor soccer.
I would like to thank our School Captain, Brittany Skeen, who through her 'Youth Frontiers' student initiative, raised money to be used in the purchase of the basketball backboards. Well done Brittany on this great initiative!
Lastly, I would like to pass on our congratulations to Jarrod Dyer who last term was awarded the Illawarra Academy of Sports, ‘Brett Stibners’ AWD Athlete of the year for 2018. Jarrod one this award for his great achievements over the past 12 months. Well done Jarrod!
