Yr 7 and 11 Camp

Year 7 and 11 are visiting the Shellharbour area for their Peer Support camp.  Having each accepted the  mission to demonstrate kindness, encouragement and determination, they have embarked on a range of activities including high ropes, indoor climbing and surfing with putt putt golf and Jambaroo Water Park still to come.

Natural talents on the high ropes course were demonstrated by Annhmaie, Alex, Josh, Byron, Fleur and Mackella.  Encouragement awards went to Rachael and Ebony who worked together to get through the challenging course.  At Hangdog Indoor Climbing Centre, Ryan, Jasmine, Bella and Mr Corcoran showed great technique to get to the top.  Julia and Skye enjoyed caving whilst Katelyn impressed with her perserverence to overcome her fears using the automatic belayer.  Colby,  Zane and Mark worked well both on and off the wall.

The weather and location have been perfect and we are impressed by the positive attitude that the students have shown throughout the trip.

Looking forward to our surfing lesson which we will report on in the next newsletter.

Science and Engineering Challenge

On Tuesday our entire year 9 and 10 cohort travelled over to Young PCYC to embark on the University of Newcastle Science and Engineering Challenge.

The students were given various tasks such as building bridges out of balsa wood, electrical circuits problems, the construction of a rover robot building to scale, a Mars like surface, bionic hand construction and other challenging engineering activities that required logic and problem solving.

It was a great day where the students were pushed to their limits and had to show quality team work to succeed at their activities. The students had to complete all activities unassisted by teachers and did the school very proud.  We were all excited to come third overall on the day.  Well done Boorowa Central School!

History and the Viking Legacy

Stage 4 History students have been learning about how people throughout the ages have explored lands far from their own, to find new places to live in, to learn from and to trade with, and therefore improve their own lives. Vikings used new technology to build amazing long ships that could navigate thousands of nautical miles from Scandinavia to the Americas where they found better farming land potential than in their frozen lands.
