The APS Green group is a part of the Young Leaders Program that helps bring recycling to the forefront of everyone's mind. We interviewed a couple of members and this is what they had to say:

We interviewed Edison and Andaru
What is the main reason that this group is a part of the young leaders program?

The more we recycle, the less garbage that winds up in our gardens and playgrounds. By reusing paper, clean plastics, and other materials, we can ensure that we can help provide a safe and clean learning space for students, and reduce the negative impacts that trash has on our environment.

What do you do each week on Tuesday afternoon?

We recycle some types of trash like paper we find in different ways like in the garden as mulch or compost or making a craft out of it, before recycling packaging and other unnecessary items, we might try to repurpose them into a craft.

Why do you think this group is important for students at Albanvale Primary School?

It’s very important that students are able to learn in a safe environment and a big benefit of a clean school is that it assures that students are free from the dirt and pollution that can make them sick. By reducing the risk of illness, children can improve their academic performance as well.

What is your favourite part of being in this group?
It is good that we can clean up a bit so we can make sure that students have a good day at school. Without this group, some people wouldn’t have the nice environment they do now.

This is an amazing part of the Young Leader Program and everyone in this group were all so excited to be a part of it. This a really good opportunity to make sure everyone is aware of how to recycle and what we are doing at Albanvale Primary School to help the environment.
