Spotlight on our Learners

JAPANESE

This term in Japanese, in the Upper Grades we are focusing on learning one of the Japanese alphabets – Hiragana. Hiragana is the backbone to all Japanese learning as it helps students learn the basics of pronunciation and assists in understanding the building blocks of the language.

Hiragana characters represent the 46 primary sounds used in Japanese, and are usually used to write words that are originally Japanese. Students use mnemonics to identify the characters, and then follow up with stroke order when writing. As well as following a workbook, we play many games in Japanese based on Hiragana recognition.
