Our Catholic Community

World Mission Month - Socktober

October, World Mission Month, is a month dedicated to the life-giving work of missionaries around the world.

Pope Francis, in his 2022 World Mission Sunday message, invites everyone to answer the call to be a missionary, sharing that "Mission is carried out together, not individually...".

Our Faith and Mission Team are in the process of planning super activities for our students to support the work of Catholic Missions and deepen our understanding of the needs of children in developing communities and take action to support them.

Legacy Badge Day

Last term, members of our student leadership team braved some very windy and rainy conditions to support Legacy by selling badges and bears. Grace, Bronte, Roger, Kellam and Jaz visited all the businesses in the CBD. Their smiling and friendly faces, combined with their polite nature proved irresistible for a worthwhile cause. They were a great representation of St Philomena's.

October - Month of the Rosary

October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary. Students from K-10 made their own Rosary Keychains to use in daily prayer. Year 10 assisted Kinder in their keychain making, Year 6 were there to support Year 2 and Year 9 popped down to help Year 1. We are so lucky to have older student so willing to support the younger ones.

Each students Rosary Keychain is unique and is designed to live on their bag, or pencil case, a ready resource to use whenever they feel the need to regather, recentre and focus. The Rosary is an excellent example of meditative prayer.

One Million Children Praying the Rosary

On Tuesday 18 October our K-10 students joined with 30,000 other children in Australia to support the prayer initiative by AID TO THE CHURCH IN NEED with an aim to rekindle faith in the power of prayer. The worldwide campaign is an invitation to remember the words of Our Lady of Fatima trusting that prayer of the rosary can truly change the world.

Praying the rosary together with children is designed to strengthen unity in the Church. We are all called to form one family across borders, united in prayer.

Supporting our local Vinnies

Establishing new opportunities for Mission and with the lifting of COVID restrictions, we are finally able to support our Moree Vinnies Chapter with a more 'hands on' approach.

Every second Friday, St Philomena's students can volunteer at our local Vinnies Shop. Students assist Vinnies volunteers to sort and merchandise the store. Congratulations to those who have volunteered so far. Your time and support is very appreciated.
