Learning and Teaching in 3/4G

This term in 3/4G we are learning about Earth and Space Sciences.

We have investigated the rotation of Earth which causes day and night and the orbit of our planet around the Sun.

This week, we conducted a science experiment and investigated two questions:

  • What happens to the length and direction of shadows during the day?
  • When are shadows at their longest and shortest?

We made some predictions based on what we already knew about shadows and the Earth’s rotation.

We set up an experiment using a stick on an A3 piece of paper to create a shadow.

We recorded the length of the shadow each hour throughout the day.

We discovered that the length of the shadow was the longest at the start of the day and got shorter in the middle of the day.

At the end of Term 3, we dug up all the potatoes from the School Vegetable Garden.

We are looking forward to using these potatoes on Friday to make gnocchi!
