New Adventure – St Augustines News

Term 4 week 2

Space Week and Our Planet Earth.

It was so hard to pick photos for this week's newsletter !! We have had a fantastic start to term 4 and it has been jam-packed with so many fun activities. With a lot of our team on holidays or placement for Uni - weeks one and two of the term have seen Amber and Amelia at school nearly every shift so big thanks to them for their amazing efforts this fortnight. Our junior staff Ava and Amily have also been at school nearly every afternoon and we have had a lot of fun!

Week one was world space week and as space is always a favourite with our children we filled the week with some awesome activities.

The 2022 theme is “Space and Sustainability” focusing on achieving sustainability in space and achieving sustainability from space. The theme is inspired by how sustainability in space relates to how humanity uses space, most pressingly, the orbital area surrounding Earth. 

We made Constellation Cubes & Moon Phase Cups and Space Wreaths. On Tuesday in Music & Drama, we created a Space Station & Moon Rock Exploration

The children love LEGO and enjoyed making Lego Moon Rovers to explore.

On Wednesday in Science & Cooking, we carried out the Crater Experiment and made Marshmallow Constellations. We also had Jr. Astronaut Training and an

Asteroid Toss made Galaxy Playdough and Yarn Wrapped Planets. 

In week two, the theme continued with exploring our planet Earth. Our explorations included the weather, landforms, and landmarks, making earth layers out of LEGO, and volcano eruptions. We also talked about countries around the world and made flags out of felt and edible cookie flags.

This led to lots of interest in countries and the children discussed which countries interested them and which ones they would like to know more about. This led to our theme for next week. We will be exploring some of these countries and their cultures and traditions.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR 2023

• For those who are already planning for January – Vacation Care will run from the 9th to the 27th January. Look out for our New Prep special days where our 2023 preps are very welcome to come and join us at Vacation Care and meet some new friends.
• Vacation care bookings will open via Hubhello on Friday 25th November as the January holidays are so busy we recommend booking early.
• New Preps will receive their enrolment packs during orientation in November.

All children need to re-enroll for 2023. Forms will go out to families the first week in November
