From the Head of Sport

Well done to all our teams for their efforts last weekend. There were some issues with uniforms and numbers on singlets. Please make sure you go to the Uniform Shop to ensure you are ready for your next game.

Mountain Biking

Unfortunately the 2022 NSW All Schools Mountain Biking Championships have been cancelled.

However, the Australian MTB Interschools returns to Thredbo in 2023 with five days of action packed riding, racing and good times with class mates. Compete as an individual or as a team and pick which events you’d like to compete in. Registrations will sell out so be sure to rally your mates up and descend on Thredbo for the best week of the school year!

Stay tuned for more info and registrations coming soon…

Cricket

With this year’s Cricket competition being a 20/20 competition, we are hoping to encourage anyone interested in giving the game a try to see either me or Mr Collins.

If you already play summer sport however are interested in helping out on home days please come and see me to have your name added to the reserve list for one of our home weekends.

If you play Cricket outside the school and have a Bye round this term please come and see me so that you can be added to our team for your free weekend. All extra help to keep BMGS Cricket going is greatly appreciated.

Buses

There was some confusion last term regarding bus drop off and pick up. If your bus starts at Blackheath then it will return to Blackheath. The earliest bus of the day will start at Blackheath and is available to bring any players that require a lift to BMGS. Please ensure when you get off at BMGS that you get onto the correct bus for your sport.

BMGS Tennis – History in the making

On Saturday, 22nd October, BMGS made history as we joined ISA Tennis, and our students became the first team to represent our School in ISA Tennis.

There are four schools in the competition, including Scots All Saints College and St Stanislaus from Bathurst, and Kinross from Orange. We played St Stanislaus this week in Orange. As we were approaching Orange, it started to rain heavily but, miraculously, the weather held out for us and we were able to play all our matches.

It is a Fast 4 set up, with a best of three sets. Each set is the first to win four games with a tie-break at 3-all. If the sets are 1 set all, there is another tie-break to decide the winner. There are six players each on both the Odds and Evens Teams.

In both their doubles and their singles, Jesse and David (pictured above) had close matches, but closed them out in tie-breaks; one tie-break going to 12-10. Raphael and Otto also played very well. A special thank you to Jed and Hugo for being a part of the Odds Team. Our Odds Team won overall with a score of 12 sets to 8.

The Evens Team was missing our second ranked player, so they played people ranked higher than them. Thank you to Eladie, Alex, Noah, Marlowe and Liam for being part of the Evens team. They won sets in their singles and doubles matches, and Marlowe won his singles match. Overall, the Evens Team lost with a score of 10 sets to 6.

If you are interested in playing Tennis on a Saturday morning for the School, please speak with Mrs Harris or Mrs van Gelderen. Training sessions are held on Friday afternoons at the Wentworth Falls tennis courts from 3:30pm – 4:30pm with our excellent coach, Ms Nicole Arrendt.

Touch Football

Girls' Touch Football

Last weekend BMGS had three Girls Touch Football teams travel to Macquarie University to compete in the ISA Touch Football Gala Day. All teams played extremely well, demonstrating effective teamwork, skill, humility and sportsmanship throughout the day.

Here is how the teams finished up on the day:

  • Junior Girls C finished with 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. Player of the tournament: Marley Hewatt
  • Intermediate Girls B finished with 2 wins and 1 loss. Player of the tournament: Ruby Roberts
  • Open Girls Division 1 finished with 4 narrow losses against some very tough opposition. Player of the tournament: Ellen Glasson

Congratulations to all students for their excellent effort and performance on the day!

Boys' Touch Football

In Round 1 the Senior Boys team play against Oxley College.  In a man of the match performance, captain Will Zakis led his team to a 7-2 victory over Oxley.  It’s great to see the continued development of Boys' Bouch Football at BMGS!
