Visual Art 

The Term 4 Unit of Inquiry is called “Ecosystems” which integrates with the Transdisciplinary theme- “Sharing the Planet”. The Unit focusses on components of an ecosystem, how they interconnect through form and balance, using visual references of microscopic images, coral reefs and scientific drawings. The Artists to explore are Rob Lowe/Supermundane, Diane Lublinski and Maryanne Moodie. 

 

Students To Create - 

  • A Pop-up puppet inspired by Dreamer Puppet Incursion, incorporating different aspects of an ecosystem. 
  • A Detailed illustration of an ecosystem inspired by the artist Rob Lowe / Supermundane. -Depicting the use of pattern and line to capture two contrasting areas including considered use of scale, shape, colour and tone. 
  • A Ceramic Sculpture representing the balance of a coral reef ecosystem. Inspired by the artist Diane Lublinski with applied use of form, detail and technique. 

LANGUAGE(Japanese) 

 

Term Focus and Topics:    School life of Japan and Australia (LEARNING TASK) / Christmas in Japan.

 

The Japanese Learning Task for Year five students focuses on the life of Japanese/Australian students. They will participate in activities which allow them to find out more about School life of Japan, through an exchange project with Japanese students: 

 

 

 

They will  Learn How To Say/Spell 

  •  “These are our school (classroom) rules.” 
  • “This is the type of lunch we eat.” 
  • “We can speak and spell some Japanese.” 
  • “We love playing these games.” in Japanese.  
  • Students will be assessed on their achievement by presenting a project poster that will be sent to ARAKAWA Primary School in Japan. Students are expected to use the correct sentence structure and spelling for the poster. If they have a chance to speak to the Japanese students on Skype, they are expected to say “Nice to meet you!”, “My name is…”, “I will show you my school.” in Japanese. 

Students will be notified through Compass when feedback on this Learning Task becomes available.    

  

Physical Education

Focus – Game Sense/Game Strategies 

  

Focus will be on Lacrosse, Volleyball and Ultimate Frisbee.

Continue developing the use of strategies, teamwork, cooperation and commitment in a game. They continue learning to undertake a variety of roles, such as umpire, coach and team manager. Students are developing skills in how they play a game, sportsmanship and leadership qualities instilled in their performance outcomes. 

 

They are continuing to develop skills in a game, both as an individual and as part of a group and learning to discuss how to apply those skills into making a game successful or not. 

  

Concepts: Perspective-Looking at different understandings of the way children perceive rules and whether these tactics are successful or not.

Library  

  

All students are encouraged to borrow books from the Library. The focus is on reading for enjoyment, interest and information. The children also have the opportunity to practise their borrowing skills and further their love of reading.

 

 

The Library program also supports and extends the units of inquiry being studied in each year level and provides classrooms with resources to enrich the units offering varied forms of information.
