Book of the Week

Puzzles

Written and Illustrated by Brian Wildsmith

This week we have chosen a retro picture book.

First published in 1971, Puzzles is a brightly illustrated book that presents simple questions and brain teasers with answers to be found in the accompanying illustrations

It allows children to practice colours, counting, patterns, learning how to read a picture and pay attention to details. It helps with recognition of differences and similarities.

Brian Wildsmith has said: "I believe that beautiful picture books are vitally important in subconsciously forming a child's visual appreciation, which will bear fruit in later life."

EMR Softball Finals

The 2022 boys competitive softball team went to regionals on the 7th of November. It was located in Jells Park at the Waverley Softball Association.

How we performed.

There were eight teams in the competition,  We lost the first two games but went on to win the next 3 in a row. At the end we managed to come back and finished third place overall.  Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to move on.

Learning Experiences (challenges and things we learnt)

At first we thought we had a good chance of winning, but for the first two games we lost, our spirits were down and we wanted to go home, but after an inspiring speech from Mr Parhar we learnt that we can still come back and managed to finish in third place.

Boroondara Youth Leadership Event

Walking to the Hawthorn Town Hall was quite an effort. Year 5 and 6 ASPS students participated in the event combined with other schools in Boroondara. The groups were made from two different schools combined. All the groups participated in three activities. The Space Dance choreography with Joel and Phoebe, this taught us many new dance moves, everyone seemed to really enjoy it, Our second session was the Boroondara youth Civics & Governance and young leaders, with Rachel and Tomas. The last session was the Mini boss Discover leadership session. There we explored different leadership qualities and found out if we were dolphins, urchins, sharks or whales and played flip a coin with the instructor Betsy. At around two o'clock all the groups performed their dances to the other groups. At around 2:15 we had a farewell and thank you from the workers and left by 2:20, for the long tiring walk back to school, even though it felt shorter it was actually longer. We all really enjoyed this excursion, and we hope we can go back soon!
