Learning Centre One
Isn’t the term just passing us by, before we know it our amazing little Preps will soon be Year 1’s. Please remember to allow the students to become more independent and responsible. We will be letting students leave without handing them over to each parent. We will be present in the learning and watching through the space but students will be responsible to find their parent or walk over to the pick up bay/ back gate. However our hope is by the end of the term they will be able to leave the school independently.
To ensure that this change is smooth, could we ask that you have a chat with your child about who will be picking them up and where they will be picked up and what to do/ where to stay in an event when someone is late. Additionally, students will need to begin carrying their own school bags if they are not already to further prepare them for Year 1.
The Preps have been busy working away and have been engaging in a range of different activities. In Literacy, the students listened to the Do Not Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus book series and absolutely loved it! In reading rotations, the students drew the pigeon and wrote their opinion about whether the pigeon should drive the bus or not.
In Maths, the students used tiny teddies to share between four people, YUM! There were a few tiny teddies that were eaten before they could be shared, but the Preps did a great job sharing.
In Religion, we have been learning about Advent and attended our first Advent Liturgy on Thursday. We learnt about the different colours of the candles and what they represent. They made their own Advent Wreath and got to take part in the making of the Learning Group Advent Wreath.
In Inquiry, we have been focusing on games of the past and the changes in landmarks in the Wyndham area over time.

LITERACY
Our 3/4 students have been enjoying their class novels and have been responding to these stories in a variety of ways. They have written about the cause and effect within the stories (what has caused an event to occur) and have looked closely at the main characters. In writing, students have created their own procedural texts with some interesting recipes, spells and potions being written.
MATHS
At the moment, the LC2 students are working on their understanding of money. They have been using coins and notes to find many different ways to make a given amount and have used vertical addition to add amounts including both dollars and cents.
INQUIRY
Throughout this History unit, students have learnt about major events through time that have had an impact on the people of Australia. Some of these have included World Wars, the Olympics and early exploration.
RELIGION
So far this term, the 3/4 students have been learning about the Principles of Catholic Social Teaching and the way these can be reflected in their lives and community. These have included
This week we participated in a whole school Advent liturgy. Each of the LC2 classes created its own wreaths and these are displayed in the learning spaces for the remainder of the term.
Last week we bid farewell to Michael who has moved on to join a very lucky kindergarten community. We want to thank him for his support - he will be very missed in LC2.

Learning Centre Three
What a jam-packed two weeks! We will definitely be ready for the holidays in 3 weeks!
During Literacy, students made finger puppets to help them describe the actions of animals. Based on the Heads and Tails book, students created their own ‘Who am I?’ about an animal and other students had to guess their animals.
In Math, students explored the seasons and what activities we can do in those seasons and what we would wear. This week students are exploring number lines. Counting up and down as well as skip counting from numbers not starting at 0.
Through Inquiry, we have been exploring how things have changed over the past 200 years. Students got to experience making and eating damper. This week we have been looking at and exploring toys from the past and toys we play with today.
During Religion we prepared for the beginning of Advent by making an Advent wreath and learning about the importance of each candle and participating in a liturgy.
Just a reminder that students will be using their devices each day and could they please bring them each day fully charged. Next Thursday 1st December is Nativity Dress up day and Friday 2nd December we will be having our Tabloid sports day.
Please remember to hats need to be worn this term!

Reading in Lisa’s 5/6 Class
Exit Through The Gift Shop by Maryam Master is a book about a young girl named Anahita Rosalind Ghorban-Galaszczuk (Ana) who has Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (cancer) and is dying. She lives her remaining one year as an average 12 and a half year old, going to school, dealing with “repeated, ongoing, tyrannical oppression” from mean-girl Alyssa Anderson and undergoes life with her best friend Al (Alexander Aaron Afu). She experiences different lives in the two households of her divorced parents. She talks about her life with her parents’ new partners - Patrick and Wanda - and what life is like with her five step-siblings: Cash, Buzz, Dillion, Brooke and Destiny, along with two dogs Kim and Kanye, and the wicked cat, Spanx.
After we had begun reading the book, we were challenged to draw Ana’s bully, Alyssa Anderson, as she is described in the text by Anahita. We annotated our images with quotes from the text to match and did our best to illustrate her description.
Review
We think the book is a fun, kid-friendly text to read. The reason we like it so much is because it’s so relatable, being within her age group. It’s interesting and humorous, making jokes about her problems and living life through humour, fun and games.

Mission in Action - Call to Action
Dear families,
It’s time to clean out your linen cupboard!
If you find any old towels or sheets, we ask that you donate these to our school. As part of Lisa’s 5/6 Class’ mission in religion, we want to support animal shelters this Christmas. Rather than asking for money, as the cost of living is going up, we are asking you to donate old sheets and towels. These items help animal shelters keep the animals warm at night. Our fundraising efforts will end on the 9th of December. All we ask is that the sheets and towels are clean, please.
Thank you!
Year 5/6 Team: Anna, Alexandra, Alison, Chelsea, Cheryl, Gillian, Hayley, John, Lisa and Scott.
