Term 4, Week 8 - Friday 25th November, 2022

Good Afternoon Families of OLSC

Another busy week as we approach the end of the year.

We were able to hold our first Advent Liturgy on Thursday morning and I thank everyone hat was able to attend.

This afternoon we had our third round of prep orientation sessions with parent information running concurrently. These seem to have been very successful with the 2023 prep group already fairly well settled into school life.  There is a planned whole school 'step up' for Friday December 9th in which al new preps, new families and all of our current students will meet their new teacher and class mates for 2023.

MacKillop College Open Day

OLSC Book Fair

Last week, the Book Fair took place at OLSC and it was a busy and bustling place to be. This year, the total Book Fair sales came to a whopping $6,200! Thank you to all of the families who came and supported the Fair, its success will mean the purchase of many new books and resources for our school.

We were also able to choose some books as prizes for a school colouring competition. Congratulations to the following students whose pictures were chosen in first and second place for each year level:

Prep - Zowie and Franco

1/2 - Sanuk and Gia

3/4 - Joanne and Saatvika

5/6 - Danielle and Shresht

Vinnies Food and Gift Drive

The Vinnies food and gift drive has begun.  Throughout the 2 weeks we are collecting food and gifts to donate to those in need this Christmas.  Thank you tp the generosity of all those that have donated so far.

Towel and Linen Drive

Please see the note below regarding the towel and linen drive from Lisa's 5/6 Learning Group.

Dear families,

It’s time to clean out your linen cupboard! If you find any old towels or sheets, we ask that you donate these to our school.  As part of Lisa’s 5/6 Class’ mission in religion, we want to support animal shelters this Christmas. Rather than asking for money, as the cost of living is going up, we are asking you to donate old sheets and towels. These items help animal shelters keep the animals warm at night. Our fundraising efforts will end on the 9th of December.  All we ask is that the sheets and towels are clean, please.

Thank you!

Disco Time

Last Friday night we had the first disco the school has seen in some years.  A super thank you to all of the families that came out last week to attend the first disco that we have been able to host for some years.  The turn out was beyond what anyone expected.

I thank all of the parents that helped plan and host this occasion.

End of Year Important Dates

It seems strange to be talking about the end of the school year however it will be upon us before we know it.  There are some important dates for you to be aware of as the year comes to a close.

Wednesday 14th December - Year 6 Fun Day at Adventure Park

Thursday 15th December - Year 6 Graduation Mass 6:30 pm

Thursday 15th December - Year 6 students' last day

Friday 16th December - Students' last day (normal 3:15 dismissal)

Families not Returning in 2023

We currently have a waiting list for placement at OLSC in all year levels.  If you are not planning to return to OLSC in 2023 please let the office know as soon as possible.

Some family friends of current enrolments have sought enrolment at OLSC and unfortunately all non-catholic families will be placed on a waiting list until we finalise numbers.

2023 Fee Increase

In coming weeks you will receive  notification from Jane regarding a fee increase for 2023. The family fee will increase by $50 to $1700.  We will keep the curriculum fee at $400 which has not increased in the last three years. This decision was not taken lightly and has been a directive by the archdiocese for our parish schools.   I encourage any families that are facing financial challenges to contact either Jane or myself to discuss your situation.

It's Now Time for Hats

Reminder - It is now a requirement that all students have a school hat each day in order to play outside.  School hats are available at the office should you require a new one.  Please ensure that your child wears a school hat throughout the duration of Term 4.

Have a great weekend and enjoy the sunshine that seems to be finally peeking through the clouds!

See you next week.

Justin and all of the staff at OLSC
