Middle School Report

YEAR 10 FORMAL 2022

After a two year hiatus, the Year 10 Formal roared back in 2022 with a night that will linger long in the memory of those fortunate enough to attend (and elicit anguish in those who passed up the opportunity to be there).

Mr Lyras and Mr Vass (the “Glimmer Twins” of RHS- Google it, younger folk!) have been responsible for the inspired opening musical numbers have characterised this event for the better part of three decades ( past ones have featured the Joker, Blues Brothers, Negan, Queen and even the World Cup) and the 2022 edition was the most elaborate and ambitious yet: a tribute to the legendary Elvis Presley, featuring not one Elvis, but TWO (Mr Vass donning the cool, rhinestone-encrusted black outfit of younger Elvis and Mr Lyras the trademark white jumpsuit of older Elvis), a trio of glamorous backing singers( Ms Scott, Ms Baines and Ms Di Marco) and an in-sync, rocking six-piece band (Ms “Tinkles” Warren on keyboards, Mr “Mad Catters” Cattapan on bass, Mr “Roscoe” Ross on guitar, Ms “Armstrong” Liao on trumpet, Ms “JJ Johnson” Pizzey on trombone and Ms “Animal” Neophytou banging the skins. Inspired by this year’s smash hit movie Elvis, our brilliant ensemble , led by the twin Elvises, took the gobsmacked audience through a rollicking rendition of that film’s famous “Las Vegas Rehearsal” and a tag- team medley of Elvis hits, preceded by Mr Vass’s  sneering, menacing opening number, “Trouble”. 

How good was the opening act at setting the tone for a stupendously fun night, you ask? For evidence, look no further than Ms Rossini, who proceeded to lose her mind and tore up the dance floor in a fevered display of twinkle toed delirium. The remainder of the night was a joyous celebration of the end of our first full year of onsite schooling, featuring fine food, loads of photos and carefree dancing, virtually all students and staff staying till the very last song.

As organisers, Mr Vass and I would like to congratulate all staff and students for the exemplary way they conducted themselves on this memorable evening (as well as their sartorial elegance!)…and extend an invitation to those who did not attend to come along next year to find out what all the fuss is about… and maybe even be part of whatever our opening routine might be!
